Hello! from CplBoone.

CplBoone

Cornsnake rookie
I accepted the responsibility of rescuing a beautiful amel, I have never owned a snake but the kid (20yo) next door asked if I would take his snake because he didnt have time or money to take care of it, and his girlfriend hates it. after seeing how beautiful "Frank" was I could not say no. Thats been 3 weeks ago, I cleaned everything, got some new aspen snake bedding, a new heating pad, and got him a frozen hopper. He has now ate 3 F/T hoppers and he did a complete shed yesterday.
But there is something going on with his scales around the red markings. Ive searched and cant find anything that looks like him.
I discovered this website from searching google and have been reading and learning for over a week now and I finally joined today!
I want to say thanks for all the information i have learned and I look forward to being a part of this worldwide cornsnake community.

Here are some pictures of Frank in *blue*.

Welcome to CS! Looks like a pretty Amelanistic (red albino) you have. I really don't like to see my Amel in shed, the whole look of milky blue on orange isn't attractive. Maybe my most unfavorite morph to see in shed lol.
Hope to see you around, and remember to make sure to look at the shed afterwards to see if it's complete, and share more pics!

There, I fixed it for you! I'm glad you like having a snake. When he sheds, check him carefully to make sure his tail tip and eye caps come off. I like "blue" amels- it's so easy to tell they are blue!

Welcome! Love the name Frank for a snake.
I don't mind when my snake gets pink, but right before she sheds she's kind of brown and dull. It makes for quite a change when the skin comes off, though.

new pictures of frank!

He was named Frank from Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Which I love.
A Big Thanks to Nanci for the help with images! I hope i have it down now because I like to take pictures! Thanks for the Welcomes K. Rene, omni, alan, and ssssinful-1.

It was a 100% complete shed. I read to give him a bath after his eyes cleared so i did and I guess it worked. I see the eye caps to the tip of the tail. all 1 piece

I am concerned about the white around the red marks on mostly the lower half of his body. I was told from his former owner he was left in his trunk on a snowy colorado night without any heat. could have this caused it? He seems fine. It all shedded (no holes in the shed) I dont know how concerned i should be about this ..
Im sorry if this should be posted in another thread. Feel free to move if wanted.

He's beautiful, the white markings are just part of his pattern. Amels can go from no white at all to thick white rings around the saddles.

The kid i got him from 3 weeks ago said he got him as a baby and that was almost a year and half ago. Before i got him he said he didnt feed him right, and didnt have a heater for a while. And he told me about leaving him in the trunk of his car overnite when it snowed one time.
Im not sure on the sex (him) is just what i was told. I would like to have it checked just to be sure.
I have not weighed him. from what I have read weigh him in grams?
Oh, i might have a postal scale.

Yes I weighed him and it says 152 grams!
is that good? bad? :shrugs:
Thanks

I was thinking he looked big to be on hoppers, and he is. He should be eating weanling mice, 16-20 grams or so, till he's up over 170 grams.

A big welcome to you and Frank. It's so nice of you to adopt Frank and give him such great care. I'm sure he appreciates it! Good luck.

Altogether Frank seems to have survived suboptimal care pretty darn well, and is a nice bright amel. I am sure s/he will do nicely with you.

I am a n00bie so take this for what it's worth. If you have a bunch of hoppers to use up, you could offer him a hopper and a half at a time until they are gone. If you only have a couple, feed him those & then switch him to weanling mice like Nanci says.

BTW Nanci knows quite a lot about caring for cornsnakes, she is a good person to take advice from.

Oh, and if Cpl is a rank, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. Any time I meet a vet or Guard or Reserve or active duty person, I try to thank them, especially at this time of year.

Thank you! yes Cpl was my rank. US Army. 84/88 active duty.
Honorable Discharge '91

Nanci has already been a huge help to me and Im sure i will need more.
Where i got my mice they had hoppers then adult maybe i need to look elsewhere to find weanlings.

Thanks again for the welcomes and Frank appreciates the compliments!

I just remember the tattoos I have seen:

"All gave some, some gave all"

Thank you, Corporal!
