Hi all.. I'm Kerri, from Port Elizabeth, SA. I have in total 17 corn snakes - yup, I got totally hooked after the first one 14 months ago... I'll be posting pics as soon as I can & also asking you guys to help name/type them for me - the guys that sell here are not very descriptive! I have a huge problem at the moment, & looking through the forum I had no doubt you guys are the ones that can help me.. I bought an adult female corn a month ago from a local petshop. I knew she had laid eggs about 2 months before - partly why I bought her - we would know for sure she's a she & I plan to breed this year.. She went into blue about a week after I bought her & shed a week later, so I attributed her lack of feeding to this. However, she continued to refuse to eat. One day, she was going crazy in her cage & I though it was because she was getting hot - we're having an unusually hot summer here. Out of desperation, I put a hide box in with vermiculite soaked in water thinking she could at least cool off.. She went in, & 2 days later...eggs!! That was on 10 March. Being somewhat OCD-ish, I already have an incubator ready for when I started to breed, so that wasn't a problem. However, Kendra is still refusing to eat. I have offered her smaller fuzzies, at the entrance to her hide, but no luck. I put a small water bowl in under her hide for her & have seen her drinking at least. My question is, I know one isn't meant to continuously offer food as they become conditioned to refuse.. So how often do I offer? I am worried that if I don't offer & wait too long, she may be too weak to eat. She is still moving around, but not out of her hide - just looks exhausted to me! Am off to work now, but am hoping you guys will be able to have some advise when I get home later.. Thanks in advance!! P.S. Can some-one also let me know how to post pics? Thanks!

I'd just offer her a small item, like a fuzzy mouse or rat pink, every four or five days or so, till she feels like eating again. You could soak her for 20 minutes in room temp water every couple days or so to make sure she is actually drinking.

Hi there and Welcome to the Forum :D South Africa Wow, that's awesome, may I ask if your there for some reason? job or you just live there? We love pics here so let me help

You start a Thread in the Photo Gallery Section or you can add them to this thread by clicking "Post Reply" on the left side right under the most recent post not "Post Quick Reply" When you start a new thread or click post reply it will give you the text box.

Scroll down to the box that says "Additional Options"
There you will find the "Manage Attachments" button click that
The Manage Attachment window will open there you can brows and add 5 photos
When you have the pics you want be sure to hit "Upload"
After a few seconds you can close the window and you should see the files under the manage attachment button.
I highly recommend the "Preview Post" button so you can see if your pics show up

Can't wait to see some pics :D we love to help determine type (I call it the Morph Game)

Thanks for the advise & info! Will back off a bit & let her rest then.. Am hoping to have some-one to help next week to take pics of all my snakes - I have some already, but close ups would probably be better.. P.S. I'm trying to convince my better half that I need to get a beautiful brightly coloured corn snake before it's gone from the petshop, so keep fingers crossed for me!!

Sorry K. Rene, forgot to answer your question - was quite wiped out from work.. I've lived in SA for 28 years after we immigrated from Zimbabwe.. Just before things really hit the fan there.. I'll probably never leave, way too beautiful & just the right size for me! If only there were more corn snake & reptile supply outlets here! There are only 2 pet shops in the city I live in that provide snakes/supplies, & 1 breeder.. Forget any expos etc, they only have those in the country's main city - Johannesburg - too far for me..
