*HELP* Is this a Corn, or something else?

any tips for keeping him? when would be fine to hold/feed him?

ive learned quite a bit from these forms and the corn snake manual, but if theres any specific difference in care for rat snakes please let me know!!

Definitely a grey rat. The two I had before getting my corns were mean as sin, so who knows.

Care and requirements are the exact same as a corn. Handle and feed the same way. Just make sure you're washing your hands before you handle your corn and vice versa. Being a wild caught it could be carrying something. I wouldn't put their cages right next to each other, either.

my stepmom is swearing she bought this snake for me and put it in the bush as a suprise.. i dunno thought, i dont know if shes risk it getting away.. plus she was worried about it being venomous, worried about my baby brother getting too close.. and she didnt know whether shed be happy with me keeping it since it was wild and would eat rodents around here. she keeps telling me happy birthday, (my birthday is in 10 days) but she has the carbon copy type thing in her checkbook for $86 at the local place i bought my corn.. she said it costed more to special order it for a Gray one since she knew i wanted a gray/black colored snake.. i dunno whether to believe it all or not!!!

I certainly hope that she didn't spend $86 on a grey rat snake! If she did, please tell her to email me so I can sell her more $86 grey rats!

grey rat

I'm with the grey rat people on this.
Grey rat.
Same baisc care as corns.
With it being that young I feel that with regular handling it should grow to be a nice tame rat snake.
Some are as tame as sleepy corns and some can be mean little buggers.
If it is fairly calm now it will probably turn out OK.
As far as your question about keeping it.
I caught one a couple of weeks ago. I'm keeping it.
It tried to escap but never once tried to bite and it is only about 15 inches long.
I feel that if it is calm now it should be a nice docile adult.

she ALMOST had me beliving it.. she had a whole story about how a student in her class asked about my snakes (because he works at the pet store) and my stepmom said she asked if he could get the color i wanted.. etc..

after i calmed down from denying it, she FINALLY said "now for the real truth.. i really did find it"

so.. pretty good joke, since i almost believed it..lol.

You wouldnt believe the prices on snakes in this local place though.. My amel corn was like $49 + tax and i dont know the sex, genetics :(

Definitely a grey rat snake!

Here's a couple of pictures of a White Oak Phase Grey Rat Snake that is in my collection:
Nice! I really like the white oaks  Back in the late eighties, I purchased a snake that was labeled "ghost corn". It was actually a white oak phase grey x corn cross. That snake was wonderful. Had a good disposition and was just so odd looking for the time. Unfortunately, due to my carelessness it escaped. :dunce:

Thanks Mike! I really like this little girl, too! Now I just need to find her a nice boyfriend!

Too bad about the "one that got away!" It's always heartbreaking when one escapes...it's always the ones we like best, too!

Ever glades???

Nice snake.
But im not so shure thats it's at grey rat.
I have an ever glads that looks just like it...
But try to check the belly, and if it's a little pink/orange it's an everglades.
But if it's just white it's a grey rat

I believe that an everglades is more pink all over, aren't they?

Here are a couple of links to show you what I mean:

An Everglades Rat would not be found in North Florida. :wavey:

He stayed curled up in the corner of the plastic terrarium for about an hour, but ever since hes been just roaming around, poking half his body up looking out by the top, just being cool like my corn.. i like when snakes act like that and are active. its fun watching them lol.. now.. if hell only go swimming every once in a while like my amel

i picked him up out of the terarrium today, i held him above the water dish and he actually went down and got a sip of water.. i was a little nervous, but he didnt seem to feel threatened.. my girlfriends snow looks more scared when we hold her..

That's great! Like I said before, that snake is young enough that as it matures with you, it may very well end up being an excellent pet

when would be a good time to try to feed it? should it be live since he was wild or what? any tips are appreciated!

Well, I feed all my snakes live meals, so I'm biased. I would go ahead and feed him anytime now

I guess I will try tomorrow! the pet store accidently gave me 2 frozen pinkys yesterday, so i saved one lol. Maybe he will eat it, since they are out of live ones right now.

here's his new home until i get a 10 gallon:
