Help Me!!!

Corns, corns n more corns
So, i just bought my first ever snake on Saturday, so i did everything the guy at PetCo told me to do, one side of the 20 gallon cage has a lamp over it, and the other side is basically room temperature. So I'm going to be buying some accessories for the snake, like a permanent water bowl, and fake log "hide", and some type of fake plant for it to climb up and explore. Now my question is, where should i place all this stuff, do i put the water bowl on the lamp side or the colder side, etc.

I also was wondering if you guys could also post some extra stuff that you think would be good to have in the snakes cage,

Thanks!

First of all, congrats of your new snake! Second, you'll want to exchange your heat light and get an under tank heater instead. Lights dry out enclosures, and corns also are nocturnal. Under tank heaters will help in digestion and keeping your snake healthy and happy.
I have found that having the water bowl on the cool side works better, otherwise (for me) the humidity gets too high.
Also, since you have him in a tank you will have to watch his humidity, I find it difficult to regulate humidity in screen tops, but I also live in dry colorado :)

AS for decor, make sure you have two same or similar hides on each side. I assume you have a baby since you mentioned petco, so you might want to put small cardboard boxes in for him to hide until he gets bigger. If you are using aspen shavings he might just burrow down into them and not utilize hides. You can also add decorations like branches and fake plants, just make sure you have cleaned them with a 10% bleach solution and rised them with hot water.

If you have any questions I'm sure everyone will be willing to help :)

In addition to all the things AliCat said, you may want to pick up a Corn Snake book. This can be quite helpful in addressing any future questions. I would not rely on the pet store employee's recommendations (the heating light is a good example of why not).

Thanks for helping everyone! So if i get a heating pad, do i put it under the tank itself, or do i put it under the Aspen, which is what I'm using, then just leave it on 24/7?

UTH's go under the tank on the bottom. If you stick directly on the glass (they are adhesive) you'll want to buy a "rheostat" (basically a dimmer) that can turn up/down the power so you can adjust the temp. Unregulated and placed directly on the glass can make it VERY hot, burning your snake (they're too dumb to move off) and/or cracking the glass. You can place it on a heat resistant tile and move the aquarium higher or lower over it too, adjusting the floor temp that way but a good rheostat will allow you to just stick it on.
