Help ! My new snake hates me

Hello--
I just bought my first corn snake a week ago. (my only snake). Now, I've had many animals through my life, but never a reptile--so I'm very green OK? I have read alot of the posts, but I was hoping someone could narrow down a couple things for me. First, when we brought him he didn't mind being picked up and handled at all.( he's 5 months old). Now, he thinks he's a viscious rattle snake. It started on the day of his 1st feeding. I thought maybe being hungry would bring on this behavior--he ate his little mousesicle with no problem and we left him alone for a couple of days, but he's still wanting to do bodily harm when someone approaches him.
Is it just stress from the new surroundings? He wasn't that freaked out the 1st week. Is it because there too many different people trying to handle him?
He was bought for a 9 yr old as a present--but I feel better being the primary handler until he gets used to to him (but everytime the 9 yr old tries to pick him up he curls and strikes-its starting to scare him) I think we've taken the needed precautions--washing hands, approaching from the side, not the ....

#1 I hope you're thawing the mouse when you feed, and are not feeding it frozen. #2 Could your snake be getting near to shedding time. It may be uncomfortable or in blue phase and not able to see well, causing it to be aggressive. Possibly there is a stress problem. You might want to give him a week to relax, and then try again in short increments of say 5 minutes. Perhaps wearing gloves would make you more comfortable holding him.

You shouldn't handle your snake right when you get home. Wait 1 week then proceed to only hold for 25 minutes a day.(preferably in the evening)

There's probably no need to reply to 6 year old threads. This kind of question gets asked fairly regularly.

As a rule of thumb, if there hasn't been any post on a thread for a month then it's pretty safe to consider it dormant unless it's a progression thread (pics of a snake as it grows, or about an ongoing health concern). Certainly posts that haven't been updated in over a year are as good as dead. You can check the date of a thread at the top left of the original post.

woah, how'd you even come across a thread this old!? Musta been doing some intense digging!
