Help, my snakes tail tip fell off!

Butter Motley

butter motleyc
Today i was playing with my butter motley when the tip of his tail ripped off. Back story: He had a sharp barb on the tip of his tail and this snagged on my finger. i gripped his tail to get it unstuck when the very tip ripped off. He is very opaque right now, and i think he is about to shed, if that makes any difference. The below is an image of the severed tip and the end of his tail from only minutes later. This only happened about ten minutes ago, so please reply quickly.

Best case scenario (and 99.9% likelihood) a shed didn't complete and was stuck there on him, acting as a tourniquet. It will never grow back. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but you have to check for these things after a shed. This kind of tissue necrosis doesn't usually happen after one shed. Make sure the sheds are complete (pay special attention to eyecaps and tail) and give your corn a good looking-over regularly.
That's a lot of tissue to lose, and I can only imagine how painful that was. I am trying to figure out quite what has happened here.

Ok, that is a logical explanation. But will he be ok, i mean will he recover, taking into account the likely-hood of a slight deformity of the tail.

Yeah, the snake will be fine. Put a little antibiotic ointment ( NEOSPORIN without the pain relief) on it.

Check the tip of the tail very carefully after every shed, immediately. If you don't see the tip with the shed, and you suspect the tip is still on the snake, follow the instructions in the sticky in the Health section for removing stuck shed.
