I'm another "early feeder".
I am of the opinion that offering food upon arrival in a new home helps to reduce stress. While I have no actual proof or empirical evidence to support this(other than 10 VERY healthy snakes), I believe that an immediate introduction of food relieves at least one common stress factor for a newly homed snake...food. 3 things that ALL snakes will stress about when moved to a new home are shelter, safety, and food. If I provide a friendly environment with lots of hides and safety/security...the only remaining stress factor is feeding. Giving them something to eat within the first 2 days or so lets them know that food IS available, and everyone feels better with a full belly.
For some reason, I have simply never bought into the "wait to feed them" idea. I have always believed that food, water and shelter is a top priority for animals, as these are the 3 basic necessities for survival. If a new snake is made aware that ALL of these survival factors are going to be satisfactorily met in as quick a time-frame as possible, it *should* reduce a majority of stress factors, and help your snake to feel comfortable, confident and secure in a timely manner.
To me...it only makes sense...and my snakes seem to agree.
