Oh my gosh guys.... I don't know what to do! I am getting my snake next week as some of you might already know, but I don't know what to do for feeding!

-Should I buy a breeding pair? I wouldn't be able to kill the pinks myself before I froze them is the only worry I have about that...
-Should I order in bulk from a company? I don't think that would be very cost efficient since I'm only planning on having one snake for now...
-If I buy a breeding pair, should I get two females and one male?
-Can they always stay in the same cage together?

I really don't want to feed live since it can end up hurting the snake in the long run, and the snake I'm getting is already established on f/t pinks...I am in a major pickle here guys! If I could buy a variety pack frozen from somewhere, that would be my first choice, but I've looked at all the mice companies I could find on the net and they sell by the 50's pinks or 100 pinks...I'm not gonna be able to use 100 pinks for one snake!
I think I might have to get a breeding pair, but I would need some major advice on that since it would be my first time breeding anything on purpose! If anyone has any special routine for that that they have found works well, please share with me!

Help please!

First of all, I don't think you should start a colony of mice just to feed one snake. Wasn't having room an issue for the snake.
Just buy some f/t on line or a pet store or live pinky and freeze them.

Second, If you want a snake you must be willing to do whatever it takes to keep it alive. This is not a toy. You must be willing to feed live if that what it takes(f/t is safer for snake) or slice a f/t back to intice eating or feed a pinky head after a regurge. Just a little reality here. Sorry, but you should know this.

I think most pet shops sell frozen......
you should ask your local ones...
my local pet shop does.

Our local Petco sells them. I think thats the easiest, that way nothing gets freezer burned and you only buy what you need :D

:-offtopic I never saw them when I look on line. Is it something they don't advertise??

most petco and petsmart stores do not sell feeders. There are probably exceptions, but this is what I have come to find out. And, if the people there know that you have snakes, they usually won't even sell you the adult mice they have there.

for one snake, the best thing to do, would be to order 25 to 50 frozen feeders and use them. This way, you get then a little cheaper, and won't have to keep running back and forth to the store. Just keep them vacuum sealed and they won't get freezer burned at all. I have some mice that I have had for over a year in my freezer and don't have any that are freezer burned.

www.bigcheeserodents.com sells mice for $0.25 if ordered under 100 and the bags come with 50 in them. Rodentpro.com is another place that you can order from, but their bags contain 100 per. And Americanrodent.com sells them for $0.30 for orders under 1000, and you have to order in quanties of 50.

You might also check out Mice on Ice (forget who makes this product), but they usually come in packages of 6 and Petco will have them in with the frozen fish food.

Thanks guys...and to LennyCorn, I know snakes aren't toys, but I was worried about having to kill the pinks myself because I think I would end up mutilating it or just hurting it badly and then either the snake wouldn't eat it or the mouse would have to be in pain. I think I found a website I'm going to order from, thanks to SerpentMama! Thanks for all the great info, I'll check around...Mwah!

I had a brilliant frozen mouse supplier but he's shut up shop, so now I just stock up when I'm at reptile hows. There's always some dude with 5 chest freezers from whom you can buy 1 frozen mouse/chick/rat/piglet/bunny all the way up to his entire stock if you so desire. I usually get 100-400 items at a time (depending on what size I need/time of the year) in various sizes and I get to see them before I buy them so that's great. You open the freezer, choose the bag/size you want and then you pay and write your name on the bag and collect the mice before you leave. That way the mice stay nice and frozen and you get to shop more for creatures to feed those mice to!

Man! Reptile shows sound like so much fun! I really wanna go to one! I might next year, someone told me about one that's a couple hundred miles away...anyways...thanks!

No, it's against their policy. Someone could buy an animal without saying they're going to feed it to their snake later, and still feed it to their snake, but they don't sell feeders intentionally.

The Petsmart near me sells f/t feeders! They sell these =) and also live "feeders". Though, maybe the Canadian Petsmart sells different things? Not really sure... think we only have 3 in Canada LOL.

Petcos here ALL sell f/t feeders.....and live. Petsmarts dont really around here...u just have to tell them you wont be needing the 7 day health guarantee on that rat... :sidestep:
