Black ratsnake? Some kind of rat snake, anyway. I'm terrible at this kind of thing, hopefully someone better will be along soon.
 
I though maybe rat snake. Will wait for more opinions. Snake was found in Statesville NC.
 
Black ratsnake for sure...Elaphe obsoleta...pulled one out of my friend's barn just today
