Help with wild corn

I hope this is the right forum, anyway yesterday I found a very small, what appears to be an anerythristic corn snake.I'll try to get some pics up later.
I'm by no means an expert but I have done a lot of research on corns, I bought an Abott's Okeetee from South Mountain Reptiles about four years ago and he is doing great.
The main reason I posted this is because I'm wondering if it's very common to find wild born anerythristic corns. I found him infront of small fish market right outside of town with houses nearby,so I'm wondering if he is a captive bred that escaped.

If you guys do think theres a high possibility that he is wild born I would gladly set him free, thanks!

Are you in Princeton, NJ or some other Princeton? If youre in NJ then it's really unlikely that you found a corn snake.. or that you found a wild one at that.
But if you're more in the southeastern US then, yes, it COULD be an Anery. I know that some people found Anerys in certain counties in Florida and Alabama..
Do you have any photos of it?

Are you positive it's not just a very dark normal hatchling? I've heard of WC anerys, though, I don't think it's extremely rare. But you are extremely lucky to find one.

Beats me. What's his temperment like? I don't think it's an anery corn- he looks rust or brown in the pics.

Do you have a pic of his head from the side, so we can see his eyes? I might be going with Alan- juvenile black rat.

I'm voting non-corn. They are very rare in your state and have never been found in your county- what would the chances be of either finding an anery or an escaped pet?

I can get one, Yeah he does look brown in the pics.
In person he is more of a gray color though.

I'm leaving shortly but I'll have the pic up in a few hours, thanks for the help everyone.

Yeah he is most likely a black rat snake, they are common here, I never knew the juveniles had the saddles that looked just like corn snake saddles.
Also he is very calm, more so than my corn snake was as a baby, which is why I thought he might be captive bred.

I'll probably release him then.

He ate a f/t pinkie yesterday.
I got (bad) pics of the side of his face, sorry it's the best I can do.(crap camera, crap lighting).

He does have some yellow on his neck ,but it isn't the same color as an anery A has on its neck.More of a brown, but I think it's just that he is missing scales there and it's some form of scarring.

Do you guys think it's best that I let him go?

How much do you want a black rat? He will probably be a tame snake. Do you find them attractive? Will he be taking a slot that you would rather fill with something planned?

I just released one about 3.5' in length. I was holding him for someone and they never came to get him. It was well mannered and very sleek and black.
No musk, it never bit me until I fed it, then he was strike happy. Got me, got the side of the glass tank where my hand was. After a day, back to normal.
He ate WAY faster than my amel corn, I guess that was "street smarts". I fed him live mice in case I released him later.

I don't think he's an Eastern Milk or Black Racer.
I agree...he's definitely NOT an Eastern Milk, their coloring is more like an adult corn as a hatchling and then fades to those brown/rust colors as they mature...plus the neck is too slender...
I had a found one last year here in Ohio...

Well I wanted another snake but was looking into ball pythons. I'll probably have to release him somewhere else though. There are a bunch of stray cats here, they would kill it plus they've gotten rid of all the mice. But,
I was wondering about your views on whether or not a wild caught snake would be happy in captivity.

There are a few members who have wc corns. I know Nanci is one, Her Maize is wc. I think as long as you take care of him the way you would any other corn you have he will do fine in captivity. I wish we could find snakes like that up here, would be cool to find something other then garters.

Just make sure if you do keep him to have him vet checked. It's well known wild snakes can carry parasites that you would want to make sure to take care of.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do with that little guy.
