It's bleeding from my females vent, I found some blood on the floor of the cage and it seems to be coming from her vent. What could this mean? (I think that she is gravid but I'm not sure)

please, any answers at all, these animals are illegal where I live so I can't take her to the vet.

see its when things like this happen that you realise maybe its not such a great idea to keep an illegal pet... :shrugs:

I will not give in to the narrow minded assholes that are my goverment. We are at the moment fighting to get them legal, but until then... There is one vet who will take them but she doesn't know anything about snakes.

And easy for you to say, so if you have comment's like "if they are illagel then you should not keep them" keep them to your self, that is not what I need right now.

I have read about post-mating bleeds on threads here. All I can suggest is you try to guesstimate the bloodloss, (remembering a little blood goes a long way, try spraying a measured 5mls of milk on the floor) and watch the snake's general vigour and condition.

Oh and by the way I have 2 ball pythons that are completely healthy, and I've had one of them for 2 years (I keep records of their weight, when they eat, and when they shed. I also have a collection of information of snake-diseases and species. I'm also waiting for material on snake diseases that is used in vet-schools.)

The corn snakes I got about 2 months ago, skinny and undernourished, the humidity was wrong and also the temp. I've been dooing my best to get them healthy, and I've seem to gotten them twoards the right weight. The female who was really snappy before is totally sweet now, but now I'm asking for help, and I'm grateful for any help.

Maybe parasites? 2mls sounds like a small loss, unless it continues? Are the balls legal? And why aren't corns allowed? I can understand for Australia, with its problems for introduced species, but corns would never survive to take over niches in the wild in Iceland.

all reptiles are illegal in Iceland, and so are chinchillas, pet-rats, sertain spiders and ferrets.

But unless it's internal parisites, I dont think it's that. But their excrements are finally looking normal since I got them and I have never seen anything weird in it. They have been mating the last few days, so maybe it's from that.

I've got no personal experience, but as I said it does sound how it has been described in threads on here as a post-mating bleed.
What is the justification for the reptile ban?
The rats and ferrets could threaten fragile ecosystems, maybe chinchillas could too, but I really don't understand how reptiles could be a problem in a place where they couldn't survive in the wild?

How many corns do you have, and are they co-habitating?

now now, you dont need to be so rude or defensive...

i just dont think its a good idea to keep illegal pets, especially when it comes to health issues, its putting the animal at risk, despite your stubborness.

And btw, the government always wins ;) but you can damned well try to make them legal... do you have a well structured opposition to their laws? If you need any help, i was a debating student for 3 years, in many competitions, took higher modern studies and a crash course in law :)

email me if you wish...

thanks fot all your help guys.

They think that if they allow reptiles, people will flock to hospitals from salmonella infection. One of the idiots said "we cant risk them getting lost and ruin the Icelandic wildlife" then he was asked "can these animals even live in Icelandic nature" and the bozo said "probeble not". Talking about shooting yourself in the leg.

We have started a petition and have help from lawyers, we have been talking to news groups but people think that since these animals aren't native, they shouldn't be here, but what they dont realize is that no animal is native here. Iceland is a reletivly young island, and every single animal here that doesn't migrate here every spring came here on ships or plains. They can rest easy knowing that their parrots and gerbils are safe...

hahaha corns couldnt survive in iceland! silly point... and yeah the government does tend to shoot itsself in the leg whatever the issue may be...

personally, they dont have a leg to stand on, there are no perfectly balanced valid reasons to not make corns legal...

and the whole salmonellea thing, thats a disease caught orraly from bacteria in uncooked meat, namley chicken...

you wouldnt eat your corn would you? lol

I have a male and a female, I dont have a clue how old they are (all I know is that the guy I got them from had them for 3-4 years, or so he says). They have been housed together since they came to Iceland (I was told), but if I had an extra cage, I would seperate them and not even think twice about it.

They are housed together in a 325 L cage
