Here Are Directions On Making Fake Rocks & Rock Walls

I came across this while I was looking for a do it yourself tutorial on making my own rock wall for Sosa's enclosure and I wasn't sure if anyone else wanted the directions or not so I thought I would list it just in case.

It is nice how they explained it all with pictures and text, at least I think so and after all isn't mine the only the only opinion that matters? :nyah: :roflmao:

Sorry, I just couldn't resist saying that - It's the :devil01: in me lol.

My boss does the same thing for his model bases, but covers everything with wood putty instead of mortar/tile adhesive and I was wondering if there was a way to do it large scale for the tank. Cool, thanks :D

Hey, that is really cool!!!! I think I am going to try it for Ruby's viv and my lizard's viv. Thank you!!

Well I also read from another site, that the people who have walk in vivariums or really large tanks, use backer board or they make simple wood frames in sections, to make the rock walls on, so they can fit it in the vivariums without a lot of struggling and finagling to get it in place. They just put them together once they are in the Vivs.

Peronally I think that is the way to go with glass tanks because it would be really hard to reach inside a tank and do this. Making it outside the tank and then assembling the sections inside the tank while in manageable sections, would make it so much simpler, also simpler to silicone the pieces to the tank individually instead of fighting to do the whole thing from start to finish inside the tank itself.

I thought that was an excellent Idea for the folks in here who have larger vivariums or even walk in vivariums. Heck it would be pretty dang cool to just put on a wall in a humans bed room lol.

Building Rock Wall - FYI - On Melting The Foam

FYI - I found that the pain thinner does not melt the foam and what does is a chemical named methyl ethyl ketone, which they sell in the pain thinner aisle at home hardware stores. The front of the container says M.E.K. ( standing for methyl ethyl ketone )

I am working on my rock wall now, and am so gitty about how it is coming out thus far. I will keep you updated on how the finished product looks. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't come out looking funky :awcrap: lol, but somehow I don't think Sosa's will care either way. I think he is just ready to get into his new, large home.

But I will be in deep doodie :toiletgra with my son if I mess up his new viv for Sosa, lol.
