Herpstat and Flexwatt on the way...

(I know I posted this already, but it disappeared. If this posts twice, I apologize)

I will be building a rack in a few weeks - nothing big, just 4 slots.

I ordered a Herpstat Thermostat (not the ND) and 12 ft. of Flexwatt, both of which shipped today :dancer:

I plan on snaking the Flexwatt instead of having each shelf wired separately. Should look something like this:

I will then use Wire Moulding to hide the cords and probe for a nice, clean look.

Stay tuned for the Rack progress...

Bought my bins today. I didn't like the Sterilite 41 qt because they are so narrow. I found these Rubbermaid 41qt tubs at Kroger of all places. They are a bit shorter than the Sterilite but wider. The proportions are more along the lines of the 28 or 32 qt tubs.

I would estimate it has about the same floor space as a 20 gallon Long aquarium:

For a poorly edited video of the bin, take a look here :eek1:

I skipped a lot of the beginning. It was just boring stuff.

Bought 4x8 ft sheet of 3/4" Melamine from Home Depot. Tried to cut it myself then took it back to have them fix my mistakes. That made me happy.

Messed up a couple more times in putting the shelves in. Couldn't quite get the gap right - it was either too tight or too loose. I have some holes to putty.

I changed my design a bit. I was first going to do all Melamine so it looked more like a piece of furniture. However, after realizing how heavy this stuff is I decided to just use it for the shelves. I am glad I did that now, as the snakes will get more light during the day.

Also, I decided to use lids. I debated about this for quite a while, and finally decided the hassle of having to take the entire tub out is worth the piece of mind knowing even the smallest snake won't escape. It isn't that big a deal, as I can just pull the tub and set it on top.

For now it is a tripod:

I have sanded out some "slots" to feed the flexwatt through:

Once I have the flexwatt in, I will add some sides to cover the flex, but not entirely close them in.

I am exhausted, but at least freshly showered. Will hopefully work on it some more this weekend, though I am on call for 3 days

Heat installed. I ran one continuous line of 4" Flexwatt. One connection = less % for something to go wrong. But if it does, I know exactly which connection to check.

I think I might use Pegboard for the sides since it is flexible and won't kink the Flexwatt. I am not totally satisfied, but I am pleased. I think this is going to work splendidly for several years. Worst case scenario - I have to replace the flexwatt sometime down the road, which won't be difficult at all.
