herpstat and UTH's

so i've had my herpstat controlling Zora's UTH for awhile, and it's worked increadibly! her UTH is the size for 10-20 gallons, and is 8 watts. now i just set up Milly's UTH, and plugged it into the herpstat. it is the size for 30-40 gallons, i believe, i know it is 16 watts. the temp under the substrate in the middle of the UTH is 91 degrees!!! that's after leaving it overnight. i am measuring temp with an exo terra digital thermometer with probe, and i am not sure how accurate they are, but the spot where the probe is definitely feels warmer than the spot where Zora's probe is. i thought maybe the herpstat would work even though they're different size UTH's, but apparently not, so i have unplugged Milly's and gone back to the heat lamp for now.

so there is another jack on the side of the herpstat, can i simply buy a 2nd probe, and run that probe into Milly's viv? would that work even if i have 2 different sized UTH's?

What's the model# of your herpstat?
I'm thinking that most likely the other port is for a night drop attachment. in which case you would have to get a whole new thermostat. I have 1 thermostat for every snake I have.

I think the second jack is for a nightdrop probe. Is that the model you have, night drop? Are they in different sized vivs? Can you match up the vivs and heat mats, or at least the heat mats?

yeah they have different sized vivs, Milly's is a 50 (36x18x18) and Zora's is a 33 (36x12x18) so i could not use the same size mats for both vivs. and no i don't have the herpstat ND (night drop). is there any way to rig it up so that i can use a lamp dimmer in conjunction with the herpstat?

With two different sized mats you'll have to put the probe under the one that gives out the highest heat output. The larger mat. Then set the temp to something like 85 for that one. The other will probably give you temps of 82 or so but that is fine. I don't use herpstats for the corns. They aren't that sensitive to temperatures. The temps here in the south vary greatly and a regular on/off thermostat will keep the temperature around the right place without problems. I use the herpstat on the more sensitive arboreals I keep and I use one to regulate three cages. They are all the same size though with the same sized heat panels. The only difference is that I have to heat the air to 82, not just a spot on the ground, so the mat difference for the corns shouldn't matter. You can also get a larger mat and just mount it to a piece of glass and put it part way under the smaller tank. Then when your snake transitions to a larger tank, you can just move the glass under the new tank. I don't attach any UTH's under the glass anymore. This makes it easy to reuse the mats anywhere.

You could try plugging a lamp dimmer into the thermostat and plug the larger mat into the lamp dimmer. Then try to get it adjusted so when the smaller mat is at 85, the lamp dimmer dials the larger one down to 85.
