Herpstat II

Has anyone used the Herpstat II? I need to buy another stat for a new rack. I have many Herpstat NDs which I love. BUT the II has two separately controlled probed, so I could either use it with the new rack and the very different double ten stack, or the two identical racks that are on one ND now, but seem to run a little different in temps, the one that gets sunlight being warmer. The price difference is $65. If I got the II and used it with the new rack and the two tens, I could take the tens ND and give it to Lila, who is the only one who doesn't have a Herpstat, whose older generation Big Apple stat acts up once in a while. I actually can think of several set-ups that are on one that would be nice to have on two stats. Same size vivs, but snakes with different needs, or with temp differences between the upper and lower vivs. It doesn't look like it hangs up, though, that's a little inconvenient, since now I have the stats mounted either on the wall or on the actual rack...

Anyway, is anyone using a Herpstat II and do you have an opinion on it?

Thanks! Don't forget the Spyder Robotics after Thanksgiving sale starts today, and all Herpstat models are $10-$20 off!

I've been using the Herpstat II since I first got my corn ('bout a year now), and I love it. The only issue I've had with it was once when it acted up once (about 3 months ago) because the dang rug that was sitting under the tank was messing with the UTH.. No idea how, but I figure that was more the UTH's fault than the Herpstat, because it calmed down within a couple hours after we pulled out the rug. You're right in that it doesn't hang up, and it gets especially irritating when I'm rearranging cords and the Herpstat falls down because the cords are so heavy. I haven't had the chance to use it on 2 separate vivs, but it works great just on the one, so I suspect it'll be fine. =)

I wonder if there's a way to make it hang up. I use the top of the racks for feeding bin storage, and they are stacked up there two rows of two.

I had a thermostat incident a few weeks ago, and first I blamed the stat, then the UTH, and finally I figured out the snake had dislodged the probe so it was nowhere near the mat, and that was why the stat was off but the temps were reading 99F by thermometer...

Now that you mentioned it, maybe that's what happened with mine? I wouldn't know for sure... That was right about the time I decided she was ready for aspen bedding (or, in other words, that I was fed up with paper towels. x.x).. Infact, the aspen was the first thing I'd blamed. x)

I took another look at the herpstat, but I'm still not finding anything with which to hang it up... You could try it, and if you do, good luck with it. =) Mine's doing fine clogging up the gap between the side of the viv and the edge of the table. *shrug*

Hey, come to think of it--if you haven't thought of it already--perhaps you could try building just a little shelf on the side of your rack, or on the wall next to it? It certainly sounds easy enough...

Maybe some of those peel 'n stick wall things? With the little hooks on them? That might work.
You could always stick it to the side of the rack with some duct tape or something! Haha!
But the shelf Floof mentioned sounds like a nice idea. =]

I have one that I'm currently using for Nicevenn and Gunn... I love it so much better than the single ones. I need another one and I'll be looking for another one of these. And the owner is great to work with. He was going to replace it for me even though it was out of warranty, but he asked me to unplug it for 30 minutes and then replug it to return it to the default settings. He said he never had problems with these... I did as he asked and it's been working like new ever since.

Yup, I'll sold on the things... worth every penny in my mind. I like that I don't have to worry about the temps and it's a lot easier on my electric bill with it not pulling any power when it doesn't need it.

I don't think those would work... this thing is pretty heavy. I have mine sitting on a shelf for awhile. At the moment, though its sitting on top of Niceven's cage (a 28gal tall laying on it's side.)
