What a little cutie! What's his name? I'm sure after all the prep you've done he'll have a very good life with you!

Mr. Slithers :)

He was none too happy when I put my hand into his enclosure to introduce him to his water dish. He coiled up, tried to strike me and rattled his tail just like I've read...it was pretty neat to see.

How precious! I love it when they do the fierce tail rattling. My baby got me good the other night (feeding night) and as a reward had to come out last night for some TV watching. She managed not to bite.

He's pretty!!

By the way, do you have any smaller hides in there for him? That log is pretty large for him and snakes do like very snug hides. Just a thought

Or just put more aspen in it. It's amazing the size of hide my adult can pack herself into...

Nanci

Plissken,

Yes I do on the cool side of the viv. But I should also replace the medium one with a small one on the warm side for the time being.

OH, they hide real well. I went home today at lunch to check on him since he had just arrived. I looked high and low with no sign of him. I started to dig around in the aspen and that's when I saw his tail, under 1 inch of substrate :)

Steve

LOL The large hides simply won't hold my guy. He sticks out from one end or the other. Funniest is when his head is sticking out of the aspen and everything in the hide is hidden, but when you look out the back end you can see the rest of him uncovered :)

How cute! Yours is a lot more photogenic (or less camera shy or something) than my guy about that size. Congrats.

My 40" adult can get into a medium-sized hollow rock- you know those sort of smooth low tan ones...She also has a fake hollow tree and she'll sort of triple herself up in a straight line, like a paper clip shape, to fit in that. She bulges out both ends, though.

I bought a stone slab southwestern-looking thing for my 10" baby, and thought it'd be way too big, but it fit in with the whole desert theme, and she has plenty of tiny hides, but the stone shelter turned out to be her favorite. I have it pretty fluffed up inside with aspen, though.

You never know what they are going to like.

I was thinking the same thing. that hide is humongous! trust me... snakes arent claustrophobic.

my brothers ball python (2 feet) can fully hide inside of a papertowl roll

You'll have another for later! Or just leave it in there- just fluff it up with lots of aspen,

You have shamed me into buying a smaller hide for him......I am such a bad parent :crying:

Don't be ashamed and don't buy another hide. Just tuck a flattened toilet tissue roll inside the log. He'll love it.

That's a great idea, because you'll need that particular hide before you know it. He'll definitely go into it sooner than you :)

Thanks for the ideas!!!

I'll introduce the flattened toliet paper roll covered with a lot of Aspen this weekend after his first feeding.

Right now he is deep, deep, deep undercover on the cool side...at least that was where he was last spotted :)

Steve
