We just got our male Opal, Mishu, yesterday and I'm head over heels in love! He was born July 28th, 2006 and already is 19 grams and 18" long! It was suggested we look for a Amelanistic Bloodred mate for him. Good idea?

An Amel Blood?? :shrugs: Sure if you want 100% Amel (het Blood & Lavender) hatchlings

Personally I'd get a Lavender... if you WANT blood... then you could get a Lavender Blood to go with that one :grin01:

Then you'd get 100% Lavenders (het Amel & Blood) and with those offspring bred together you could make some Opal Bloods... oooooo

Well the idea was to get opal blood sort of deal going, perhaps I misunderstood what the breeder explained. I'm still overly confused about how to manipulate his already cool genes. Lavender blood.....isn't that the cool new almost purple snake?

Yeah you're on the right track, but with that combo, you would get amel het lavender and blood babies, but then if you bred those together you could only get amel bloods, amels, opal, and possibly opal bloods. No lavender bloods.
Still, a very nice combination, I would do it!

Well, regardless of future mates, I adore him. He has a beautiful rainbow shine that leaves me captivated! Everyone says one is never enough, but I'll be happy just getting to spoil Mishu. ;)

Good shot

Nice pic. The colors on that snake are awesome. I'm not one for opals but like you said there is something about the color on him that just makes it look really cool. Plus it helps that thats a really cool shot. Looks like its growing fast as well. Maybe you won't have to wait for the 3 year mark to breed... 300 grams may come quicker than you think haha! But you should to be safe... anywayz, Great pickup!

Yeah, at 19 grams I'd be feeding the snake double pinkies. When it hits 25 or so, small fuzzies. The growth takeoff when you switch to fuzzies is amazing.

As far as the amel blood part---if you do that, you'll only get amel based morphs in the future. Ie: Amels, Amel bloods, opals, and opal bloods. You won't get any lavenders out of that pairing, ever.

Gorgeous colors on that snake! I only would not say that he is a very fast grower... my hatchling is a month older and already 49 grams by 57 cm... but I'm a fan of Dean's feeding schedules :grin01:
