I finally got my snake today, hes a Silver queen, also a albino. I know I know i have read about co habitation i know the risk, and so far we are keeping them in the same cage, right now they are cruzing around, checking out thier surrondings.

if they were feed on monday when should we feed them next? the reptile shop said wait a week is that too long?
 
Both snakes are gorgeous.

If the snakes are less than a year old, you should feed about every 5 days. You should look up "The Munson Plan" for feeding suggestions.
 
I follow the Munson Plan and its worked great as far as feeding goes. You should also wait to feed them as least three days so they have time to settle in. Very pretty duo!

This picture has been posted here before and I know the owner was happy with it being posted around. Your snakes are gorgeous but as to them living together.

Sorry Zach but I gotta say... they did say they did their research, so I'm sure they've heard about cannibalism. Don't think anyone should be negative here because this thread isn't about cohabbing, its about the pretty snakes, no need to bring the issue into it if they've looked into it and made a decision for now...

it is no different then dog fighting though. You are putting two animals together knowing that there is a good chance they may try to kill each other...
 
Nice snakes, hope all goes well with them. I'd agree with Zach, I wouldn't risk losing either or both of them through co-habbing.
However, they're your snakes, your responsibility.

Maybe I'd agree with you to some extent if this thread had been posted in the Photo Gallery subforum, but it wasn't. This isn't the right subforum for "pretty snakes" discussions. It was posted in Husbandry and Basic Care, and the only husbandry aspect mentioned was cohabitation. When you post on an open discussion board, expect discussion-- even in the Photo Gallery. :shrugs:
 
Even if this was in the photo section, there'd still be discussion about the co-habbing, or any other issues that caught the collective 'eye' of the forum. To use Zach's analogy, if someone posted a picture of a nice pit-bull in general chit chat and it had fight scars, it'd probably start a debate about how it'd got 'em.
My opinion is that those nice snakes would have a better chance of growing to even nicer adults in seperate vivs, but I'm also aware that I have no say in the matter, they're not mine. But I'll still ask the question anyway; bsr, which part of your research made you choose to co-hab?

well we all have opions on what is right or wrong, if there is a problem with them ill move them, they are about the same size so i dont see them eating each other even though they might be able to, and when asking around at the reptile shops they said that i can house two corn snakes together, while that does not make it right its just another opion. i drive 120 on the fwy im sure people have thier own opion on that, i shouldnt do that but its my choice, i have two dogs, one is 6 yrs old and hates almost all other dogs, we got a puppy 1 1/2 year ago with every one telling us it wasnt a good idea, but they get along great together. does that mean the snakes will NO, but if they are not i have plans to give them thier own set up if need be. Why you may ask do i not just give it to them thier own set up now, well its my choice and ill work with what i have.

I knew that by co habitating them i would catch alot of flak here on the forum, but thats ok i have tought skin i can take it.

i find it funny that i get flak for co habitating but yet people will kull thier corn snakes because they are not the right type, or they have no room for them.

Well, hold off on busting that gut-- you'll find that very few people cull for these reasons. But if it makes you feel better about your uninformed decision, then laugh away. Do you drive 120mph on the freeway with kids in your car-- kids who rely on you for their proper care? There's a difference between making bad choices that put you at risk and making bad choices that put others at risk.
 
actually my decision is well informed, there are people on here who have co hab before so saying my decision is uninformed is a little wrong, i know the risk i know thier can be problems so i will deal with it if it happens. i know what can go wrong so i am informed on what COULD happen.

A GOOD chance??? I have a better shot at winning a mega-millions lottery or getting struck by lighting than a corn snake eating a cagemate. Cannibalism is pretty much a non-issue if proper feeding practices are followed, so please don't exaggerate.

Opinions do vary, but doing something that knowing endangers others that don't have a choice whether it be co-hab'd snakes or the other motorists on the freeway while your driving 120, is not opinion. That pretty much equates simply to wrongdoing.
 
Your lack of responsibility (Driving 120 mph endangering the lives of countless others) in your personal life is obviously the same reason you are doing it here. Your statement that you will fix the problem when it arises is like saying you will fix your driving when you kill someone why wait? Honestly, I work my arse off protecting this country and working to save lives. People with so little regard for life as you have disgust me. The few choices you have made so clear here are likely just the tip of your irresponsible, negligent and likely extremely hazardous decisions. Grow up take responsibility and stop endangering others.
 
Co-habing is your choice... it's not right... but your choice..
120 on a SoCal Freeway..??? that's friggin' suicide!!
but you're only 18, so.. you'll learn... if you live that long...

Neither is right... but it is your choice... enjoy your beautiful snakes
and hopefully you and them live long happy lives...
