he's trying to eat mouse from the middle!

help ---have had my snake for about a year and a half with no problems. Tonight fed him a mouse and instead of eating him head or butt first, he is in the process of eating him from the middle and actually folding the mouse in half. I thought he would regroup himself when it wasn't fitting in his mouth very well, but he is trying to get it down. I tried to take the mouse form him and offer another --only because I'm worried that he is hurting himself--his face and head are stretched to the point that it looks painful. What do I do?
What if he gets it down like that? Will it cause him problems?
This is not something I thought I would have to worry about.

Thank you

It's amazing what and how a corn will try to eat! He'll eventually figure out that he needs to reposition the mouse. You can try to get it away from him...good luck on that, by the way... but if you do, you shouldn't need to offer another one. Just rinse that one off in warm water and offer it again. If he does manage to get it down, I don't think there will be any problems. He MAY throw it up again, but I doubt it.

he actually swallowed that whole mouse sideways! After he got it past his mouth, it went down pretty easily. So far he has kept it down so he seems OK. Thanks for answering, this was my first snake "freak out".
