Hey all, new guy here

Mogey

city livin'-nature lovin'
Hello everybody, my name is James and I am no longer a lurker!

I decided a few months back that I wanted to broaden my experience with caring for animals. Over the years I've had dogs, birds, fresh and saltwater aquariums, and hermit crabs. I've always been an animal lover, and had a particular interest in reptiles, mostly since they aren't very common in the wild where I live in New York. When I had finally put the resources together to begin a setup, I was left with the question of "what?". I'm not the sort of person to begin any endeavor regarding caring for animals without thorough research, and so it began.

I began my research through various popular herps and species; red-eared sliders and other aquatic turtles, Greek and Russian tortoises, bearded dragons, cresties, white's tree frogs and the like, and lastly, colubrids. My search ended within the subspecies there. Without a doubt, I knew a corn snake would be what I was looking for. I then began the research in all the basic information and care for corn snakes (I must've read just about every care sheet available online) and then advanced care through literature and refutable websites- which brings me here.

I spent about 2 months in preparation for the new arrival, and it didn't take long for me to realize whenever I needed to find out something specific about care or setup or anything at all, I always chose here. Then I found out what a 'lurker' is. >_>

Anyway, I went to the New York Metro Reptile Expo in White Plains on 4/21 and purchased a 2 month old male Sunkissed Motley from BHB Reptiles. I'm happy now to have gone from just a reptile enthusiast to an official reptile hobbyist. Sorry for the wall of text intro, just glad to be part of a great community with much to offer. :D

Pictures to come of my male Sunkissed Motley - Red Foreman

Hello. I have recently become a hobbyist. I honestly don't know how anyone has time for more than a couple of snakes. Frostbite and Charisma keep me very busy in the evenings. The only time I leave them completely alone is for 72 hours after feeding.

Welcome! I was introduced to corn snakes years ago by a guy I was dating. Prior to this I was terrified of snakes, and needless to say, these amazing babies got me over that fear. I am now addicted to them!!!!! I think you made an excellent decision :) Can't wait to see pictures of your little one.

Since I just got him Sunday and fed him Tuesday, I haven't had much time to handle him for pictures. Today I plan to handle him and get a better view for pictures for you all. But in the meantime, here's a picture of him exploring his terrarium under his nocturnal light (until the camera flash sent him the other way). I hope I posted the picture correctly, but yeah. More to come, I'll probably make a thread in the photos forum so this thread doesn't carry out past its introductory purpose.

Thanks! I got the idea when he struck his first pinkie right on the butt.. I couldn't get Red's famous "You're gonna have my foot in yer a-" line out of my head, and the name stuck.
