I just have a question about the feeding thing. My okeetee corn is now in the neighborhood of aboooouut 22-24 inches. I am feeding him 2 peach fuzzies once a week, and I am going to be moving onto fuzzies once the peach fuzzy bag is used up. (I have 5 left right now). Anyway...I might have alluded to this question before...and I KNOOOW THE RULE about one and one half times the body width...yada yada yada.....BUT....For those of us who are slow learners....could somebody PLEASE tell me what a corn snake should be eating in terms of LENGTH??? I've never heard it expressed in terms of length. Surely SOMEONE HERE has raised a corn from hatchling to adult, and therefore would know something like....What size should they be eating when they are 2 months old? What size should theybe eating when they are 6 months old? and finally...What size should they be eating when they are a year old. If....lets say...you have a yearling corn who just happens to be REALLY REALLY skinny....you might think that pinkies are the way to go, which is OBVIOUSLY FALSE.
Yes, I ADMIT IT.....I belong to the "Slow Learners Club" LOL. So, would someone be so kind as to PLEASE SPELL IT OUT FOR ME. I would really appreciate any advice from somebody who has raised a baby to adulthood and who knows what size mouse they should eat at a given length, or AGE for that matter. And you can't tell me that it is all related to girth either...because the length of your corn and its girth are RELATED, I know that much.:dunce:
Thanks for your help.

well, i dont know any rules etc, but with mine, i feed them two pinkies (soon to be fuzzies). i have a small rule! if they eat one...feed them one, if they eat two... feed them two. mine wont eat for the hell of it, they eat when they r hungry, so im guessing yours shud b the same.

if im wrong, i do stand corrected

I sent a picture of mine off to one of the breeders on this list, and he said she was ready for a small adult mouse. I fed her on f/t last night, and it seems about the right size for her. She's not 20" long yet. I wasn't sure if she'd be able to get her mouth around it ( I had visions of trying to resusitate my choking herp), but she just constricted it a little more (yes, the thawed mouse got constricted just like the live fuzzies got), and once she swallowed, she wasn't super huge. I checked on her this evening, and no regurg.

I was picked up for this line thought on another thread. For a good feeding schedule refer to the Corn Snake Manual. One or two appropriate sized food items every 7-14 days is sufficient. Some snakes can be greedy and eat more than they need. Their skeletons and muscle structure shouldn't be over stretched while they are growing. The old rule of 1.5 times their girth should always be adherred to whether your snake will take more food or not.

I just fed mine her first small mouse, f/t. I thought she wouldn't be able to swallow it, but once it was down, she wasn't too big. It's very misleading with their small heads, and necks. I was having visions of trying to do the heimlich maneuver on my poor girl after she choked on the darn thing....but.....no problem! I've checked her today to make sure she hasn't regurged, but she's fine. This is also her first time on f/t. She constricted it and everything! I'm so proud of her :D
