Hey guys! Wednesday is the big day!

I have a little more than an inch of substrate in the tank so I was thinking I would just get the hermit crab one which is pretty small, and kind of sink it down into the substrate. I figure they wouldn't use anything toxic to make them but I didn't want to have to worry about it. We have a hide on each side, it's just that she is itty bitty and I want to make her feel as secure as possible :) I am going to let her adjust for a while before I take any more pics but I will definitely try that, thanks for the tip!

So using the picture I took after getting her out of the box I was able to find out that my little gal is 12.8 inches long! I measured the a portion of the pattern on the blanket and used the serpwidgets site that Hypnoctopus recommended! Thanks!

Glad you found it helpful! And wow, she is itty bitty! If you're the sort of person that likes to keep track of things, you may also want to get a kitchen gram scale to weigh her every now and then.

I use iherp.com to keep track of feedings, sheds, weights, lengths, etc.

I will definitely be in the market for a scale as soon as possible. I am thinking she must have been a late 2013 hatch to be so tiny. I will definitely be in the market for a scale, I thought I had an old little analog type one deep in the pantry but no such luck, haha.

It's probably safe to say that one pinky every five days should be okay for now until I can get a scale, right? They definitely aren't 1.5 times as thick as her, maybe a little thicker but not that much. The pinkies from petsmart are pretty small I guess :/

So when I got home from school a bit ago I noticed that my little nameless girl is now resting behind her skull hide instead of in it. There are some fake plants back there and I think she feels more secure hiding under the leaves, the skull is pretty big even with substrate piled up in it. Do you think she needs more hides or should I just be happy that is exploring a bit?

I think one pinky every five days would be perfect. As far as hides go, you can't have too many, especially for a baby snake. They really seem to love those fake vines you can get at the dollar store. It allows them to move around thinking that they can't be seen.

The fake vines from the dollar store is exactly what she is hiding in! I wrapped the majority of the vine around the top of the apple tree branch I stuck in, but had about a foot left over so I shoved it behind the skull. Apparently it was a good decision because I have checked on her a few more times and she has actually gone back into the skull and out again! She must be feeling a bit more comfortable than yesterday, she didn't move at all after getting in the hide.

Beautiful baby! I absolutely love the crazy pattern! :D

The pinkies from petsmart are a rip. I would look for a local mom n' pop store or local feeder breeder to buy mice from. They'll be much cheaper and you can specify the size you need pretty much exactly.

I actually found a guy pretty close who breeds feeders at his home. 50 cents a pinky, 75 a fuzzy, and he is willing to meet me at the train station a couple miles from his house! He offers live generally, but is willing to freeze them for me also which is great cause I couldn't. They don't bother me once they are dead, but they are just so cute alive... I am thinking I will get 30 pinkies and pay 20$, that way he is willing to meet me at the train station next time too ;)

Nice!

I had problems finding a food source over here so I started breeding my own rats(mice are the devil) The killing doesn't get to me any more with the pinks... but when they're small rat size and they just want to cuddle D:

Ahh! I love rats too much. Do you have a lot of snakes? I only have one little baby, so breeding my own any time soon would be completely pointless. Although, I am already wanting a blood red stripe. They are definitely my favorite morph. I am determined to wait until my baby outgrows her 10 before I get another corn, but it sure is hard when you run across an adult male blood red stripe for a good price in the classifieds that would be absolutely perfect...If only I had more disposable income...

She's adorable! There is a sticky in the Health section about how to soak her to remove the stuck shed, after she settles in. One tiny piece on her head is okay. If it was her tail tip, I'd go ahead and soak.

You can put crumpled newspaper or paper towel or paper bag inside the hides that are too roomy for a baby. Even adults love that. I have one snake who goes INSIDE a bag, inside her hide, every time.

And, as noted, baby snakes love leafy vines, and will use them to hide in plain sight. They also LOVE toilet paper tubes, squished flat.

Nope, I only have 3.
I think I'm going to be supplying my sister's Biology teacher soon though. :)

I wish I had more of a disposable income too! I want a BCI so flippin' bad! And a carpet python, a BRB, a king snake, a milk snake, a hognose.... the list goes on D:

It's hard! How long have you been keeping snakes? I have only had my little one a few days, obviously (welcome threat) :D. I have found myself obsessed with corn snakes now though. I think it's because she's new so I'm thinking about her constantly but I can't do anything with her, can hardly even see her especially because she had her first meal yesterday. So instead of looking at my actual corn, I look at galleries and classifieds on the forum haha. I would like to have two or three corns at some point, but I want to acquire them slowly and thoughtfully so I won't get in too deep or regret anything.

I stuck a tp tube cut in half in there yesterday but apparently it wasn't flat enough, cause this morning I woke up and it had been smooched down, I assume by her slithering over it ^_^. And I plan to go back to the dollar store and get another vine or two, she sure does love them!

I've been keeping snakes for 1 year since feb 6, when I first got Riddle. :)

I got my second snake, a BP, just a month after I got my corn snake. My third one came to me from my sister in August, though I've cared for him for longer than that because she hardly did. He's a WC Gopher snake, my sister decided she couldn't afford him anymore and gave him to me.

I look at snake pics all day long and every one laughs at me about it. But I can't help it, they're all so pretty D:

Yeah! My husband says I'm a snake nerd and that I've become obsessed. I tell him how can I possibly be obsessed? I just have one tiny little snake...haha for now. But I seriously am obsessed with bloodred stripes. I will have one some day. I've been planning on building a big bookshelf unit for my living room, and now that I have discovered an obsession with corns I am going to modify the shelves to fit 20 gallon-long tanks...just incase :p. I know it's more efficient and cost effective to keep them in racks and tubs, but a big part of the fun is seeing them do stuff and getting to decorate and redecorate their home. :) I guess I am a little bit of a snake nerd these days.

This is the bookshelf I plan to build, cheap and sturdy with the potential to be super pretty depending on the finish. I am not at all a fan of the white paint, haha...

Very nice! I should build something like that!
I've ran out of room for tanks, and I was told no more snakes... but what if one just happens to end up at our door step in a well insulated box? ;)

There was an adult bloodred at one of our local pet shops. I wanted it sooooo bad, but I decided I didn't want to spend the money ._.
I definitely want my next snake to be an adult, I'm sick of waiting for babies to grow. :p

I've gotten into a bad habit of browsing craigslist for snakes!

Haha not much time for handling babies, either. Feed, wait two days, handle for a day or two, feed again, and then likely shed time haha. Bloodreds seem a little bit tricky too, maybe I'm just a noob but it seems like you never really know what kind of a red you are going to get until they are an adult. But I love the idea of watching a snake grow, I'm sure there will be a progression thread for my little gal...only problem is I have to name her first...

Oh and the craigslist thing is a bad idea too, cause not only do you WANT them, you also feel bad for them.

Bloodreds are so weird as babies, nothing at all like the adults.
I'll be on the lookout for your progression thread :)
Naming is so hard!

you also feel bad for them
Lol, for sure. Good thing I'm cheap, otherwise I'd be filled to the brim with snakes because someone was "moving" or "didn't have time" D:
