Hey Joe, eggs!

Kat

I'm talkin' to YOU.
Hey Joe,

First clutch of eggs (ultrahypo mot X sunkissed). 9 good, 7 slugs (not shown). I was a little disappointed in the fertility rate, but 9 should still be enough to prove the cross one way or another.

The lava corn is in shed still, so she'll be a bit longer.

Right. You do realize you're around the 3,124,882nd person to make that joke? *shakes head and facepalms*

-Kat

I can't believe you actually sat there and counted how many people did the joke before me. ;)

Good luck witht those eggs Kat!
Hope to see the little hatchlings soon~~

I have 4 females that laid already and the 5th one just got egg bound without even laying.....(shes the milk snake phase female..she has full of eggs, at least 10 there and she's egg bound without laying...I know cause she's in her post laying shed now...)

Dang~~
what luck hey?

Anyway good luck with your eggs and hope that they'll hatch and all eat for you soon!!!

Congrats on the eggs Kat! I think we are all looking forward to seeing if the sunkissed and ultra hypo lines are compatible.

Sorry to hear about your snake becoming egg-bound Simon. I hope you are able to save her!

CornCrazy,

Yeah I hope so too.
She's my 2nd egg bound snake of the year...so talk about luck hey? And what's worse? No eggs came out of her....I had high hopes in her in producing some nice looking milk snake phase for me...but I guess not now..............sigh.........

WOW! That is bad luck Simon! I bred several 2002 corns, and was really worried about egg-binding since they are so young. They are all good-sized, though. Anyway, so far none of them have become egg-bound. I do still have 4 more 2002's that are due to lay this season so I'm not through worrying, yet. (I had 9 2002's that were bred this year).

Way to go "Nerd"!

Well, 9 good eggs is better than 16 bad ones. I hate it when that happens. You should definitely find out if your Ultra is compatible with the Sunkissed. Rich Z already did this test and found they were not compatible, but this will help to confirm it. It seems we need more than one breeders results to silence the skeptics.

I see that you got elongated eggs with little stars on them. I get a lot of those type out of Motleys. I have always thought that it is strange that some corn snake eggs vary in shape and texture. I don’t see that with other snakes. It always makes me wonder.

The Ultra X Lava is the big one. Lets keep our fingers cross that you get good eggs out of her.

Yeah... they're very elongated... There's one on the bottom of the pile on the right that's extremely long... makes me wonder...

That having been said, the eggs I got from my Amber last year from the same male were NOT torpedo shaped, but more standard egg-shaped. If anything's influencing the shape of the eggs here, it's coming from your sunkissed female, methinks.

-Kat

Egg Shape

I would have to say that the females are responsible for the egg shape. I get ones that look like little ping pong balls, torpedo shaped ones as you say with little stars on them, Elongated ones, with hard deposits on them and some that look like small Gopher snake eggs, much like the ones Hurley posted of the Lava X Charcoal. The only difference I see with other snakes is that some of the young females will have more elongated eggs, but when they are adults they are pretty standard.

Interesting...

I've not really seen the torpedo egg thing in any of my females before... the eggs tend to be your standard oblong cornsnake egg... (though Serpwidgets has one that always lays torpedo eggs). Odd.

-Kat

I have had some of my females lay torpedo eggs thier first year, then lay normal eggs the following seasons.

eggs

from the looks of those eggs I have heard that could be caused by a calcium deficiency,do you give your corns any vitamins? I have had a clutch like that before but got lucky and all the eggs hatched,l but had them examined and it was determined that she lacked calcium, the same look as your eggs

I don't think so... I've heard of 'windowed' eggs occurring due to calcium deficiency, but never torpedo eggs...

-Kat

i am so looking forward to see how the breeding season turns out this year. so many new little ones to choose from, so little space....('')
