Hi i just recently purchased what i was told to be a creamsicle cornsnake, i love it so far. It is really calm and fun to handle.

I am excited but i had a question about different wattage. I have a 10 gallon tank with a UTH and an incandescent light bulb, 75 watts. With the light on my tank gets over 90 degrees and with the light off with the probe over the spoy where the UTH is and against the glass the temp drops to 78-79 degrees maybe lower. I was wondering if i should change to a lesser watt bulb maybe around 50,40, or 25 watts so it wouldnt get too hot. Does anyone know approximately how much heat those watts give off. I know about the rheostats but i also wanted to know about lesser wattage.

anything would be greately appreciated, thanks.

You don't use the light for a heat source. But I would use a lower wattage bulb cause you have a ten gallon tank and will dry the snake out. Take your temperatures above the uth, where the snakes lies. Use the light for your benefit only.

Remember a 20 gallon for a hatchling is massive, so include lots more hides to make it much less daunting for the little one :)

Haha, I was umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether to ask how old it was in case it wasn't a hatchling, in the end I assumed!

haha its all good

appreciate the help though im am really excited about it and cant wait for it to get comfortable in its new surroundings.

Greetings Rahrah, I'm new here too. Jealous that you are lucky enough to own a year-old cornsnake! I'm still shopping for my first. (And second, and third....etc.)
