Hi all! :) 1st time owner, 1st corn snake

Hi all,

Been reading this forum for a couple of months now whilst doing research for finally getting my first snake

Glad to finally sign up and be the proud owner of a lovely little baby Carolina Corn Snake.

Got him from City Reptiles, Belfast, Northern Ireland. They have been selling reptiles like hotcakes over Xmas.
Hoping to pick up a striped corn in March when theres some hatchlings (and if all goes well with little Kerouac!)

Snake has been in his new home for a week now and has settled in really well. Ate first meal with no problems. Likewise with pooping! Everything seems to be in order with this little dude.

We are bonding well and he seems to enjoy being handled.

Colors getting dull so think he is going to shed soon, hope that goes as good as everything else so far.

Anyway, theres a pic of the little guy.

Thinking about maybe trying out a Mexican Black King Snake around march 2014.
Anyone got anything to say about them?

As for this little guy, he has been pooping rather a lot
Stopped for two days there and just been fed today. Going to keep an eye on him over weekend. Hoping it's just the stress of the move etc and his guts will settle.
If not, it's going to have to be a crap sample off to the vets :/

Welcome! Your baby is gorgeous; don't have any Carolinas myself, but I've always loved their patterns. King snakes make excellent pets. Although, because kings have a tendency towards cannibalism, I'd keep it well away from your corn. They have the same care requirements as corns, for the most part. Baby corns seem to poop a little more often than adults, but definitely keep an eye on 'im. Maybe if you leave him alone for a few days, he'll get more relaxed.

THanks for the advice. Think i will leave him over the next four days then. Just open his home to clear our any poop so I can keep an eye on those type of 'regular' activities.

Didn't know that about the king snakes, heard they can be a bit grumpy at times, but never heard them to be cannibals! More research required. Will talk to the breeder I got this little dude off in the new year and see what he thinks.

He's an adorable little guy. I'm planning on buying two more baby corns myself, and there's the pretty standard "coming home" procedure; juvenile corns tend to be more nervous, so it's always best to leave them alone for a few days after bringing one home. Kings aren't really temperamental; they tame down about as easily as a corn does, but when they're babies, they like to poop on you when you first pick them up.
