Hiding at night

Well, i have had my baby corn for about two weeks and right when i got him he would hade most of the day. I always check on him at night and only once i have seen him on top of his moss with half his body in the air doing a crazy dance lol. But since then he is never out at night, he is always hiding. At fist i thought it was because of digestion but i now its certain its not. Should i be worried? I recently switched to a UTH which works out great. He always is on the right side which stays around 80 F throught out the day/night. The hot side goes from 85 F in the day down to low 70's at night. Im probably just being paranoid but tell me what you guys think. disregard if this is a dumb question, im new at this haha.

Thanks!

the crazy dance u say could of been your corn look for the way out (if it was close to a wall or the roof ) .. my corn will hide most of the day and only come out for a drink or if shes been fed. usually as soon as the light goes out she comes out for a lil wander . maybe your corn isn't used to the new surroundings yet or u might have a to big of a tank ?

im no expert but thats what id think hope it helps a lil :) and good luck :)

Contrary to the impression you'll get from some people on this forum, there's no such thing as a dumb question! This is a good question - snakes do some weird stuff sometimes.

We're now up to 26 snakes (how the he!! did that happen?????) Ergo, I think we have a pretty danged good cross-section of ophidian behavior to watch.

Some of them are out cruising pretty much all the time. Some are out only in the evening. Some we absolutely never see except when we dig them out of their aspen.

It's good that you're keeping watch! Some snakes get more "outdoorsy" as they grow, and quit spending all their time buried. Remember - a hatchling has three things on its tiny reptilian mind - staying out of sight to avoid being eaten, staying at whatever temperature feels best at the moment, and finding things it can eat. As you get more experience, you'll learn more about what your snake wants to do and how it acts. Be patient.

One more thing - if your snake is spending all its time in one spot, it means that's where it's most comfortable. If that also happens to be the coolest spot in its environment, that means the other areas are too warm. A heater probably isn't really necessary until things start getting quite a bit cooler. If the UTH isn't behind a thermostat or rheostat (search the forums if you don't already know about those), it might be worthwhile to think about one to turn the heat down.

Good advise so far! And yes, there are no dumb questions! Ask and ask and ask!

Do you have the UTH on a rheostat? Tank raised up a bit? How big is the tank? Too much room and stress out any snake. As Glen said, snakes can do just about anything and not stick to the text book cases we all have read about.

I too have some that are active, others only when hungry, and some you will never see out! Those are the ones I have to go digging for in the aspen to even offer food. I even had an adult female snow that was always on the coldest side she could find! She really didnt want any heat, even in the winter here in Maine! She never came out, only when she was offered food and than right back to hiding. Give the lil one some time and make sure its home is the best you can provide...not all snakes live in tanks or vivs, some live in bins in a rack system.

Good Luck

Ahhh thank you all!! i definitly was being paranoid but to answer your questions i have a twent gallon tank which is a little big fa reosytor a baby. I have a reostat for my UTH. i made sure i bought on because i have heard some get way too hot. Anyways, i just checked on him and he is up in his tree hanging out. So it was me just being nervous lol. I have one more question though, i have searched and searched for his poop and it is nowhere to be found. I have literally cleaned out his whole tank searching. I dont think he poops in the water but i could have missed it as i change it everyday. I have fed him twice so far and i am going to again tomorrow. Any suggestions as to why he could not be pooping? i also gave him a warm bath which he didnt like and he pooped three little tiny white droplets. I dont know. If anyone has suggestions im gladly open to them

Thanks again for your help!!!
