Hog Island Boa!

A hogg is what i learned from them indeed a BCI. I saw 3 hoggs today at the reptile store i just fell in love with them. Next year maybe..

Haha, i know what you mean. The only bad thing is that this poor girl is stuck in a 20H gallon... she's a little big for that :( so as soon as i purchase her, i'm going to get a nice new cage, thinking about a Boaphile.

I was waiting for you to see her Jenber! Unfortunately my parents don't share my same interest in her color though. My mom states "She doesn't have as bright of colors as the other one (referring to my Normal Corn lol), seems too pale, i don't really like that" :nope: Way to break my heart mom...

I just wish that photo's capture all the color, you can barely tell that the sides of her body match my skin tone... I wish i could plop her on a table and all of you come over and check her out! lol. A photo will never replace seeing these beautiful animals in person...

Tell them the 'lack' of color is also something of a specialty amongst boas! That is unfortunate though, hopefully your mom comes around and will grow to love her too! She looks like a sweetheart and I'm definitely jealous :)

The photos never do justice to how beautiful they are, There's always so much depth to the color that just never even shows up!

Oh i'm sure she'll come around because of how she was when i first got my corn, complete 360 there! I'm so happy with her i can't even begin to express it over typing! :D

They are kinda their own "morph" I think...They are a naturally occurring "hypo" boa...You find alot of HoggXBCI's for sale, as I think (no expert here either) it gets expressed as a co-dominant trait, with some of the baby crosses appearing hypo...

That would be correct, they are a naturally occurring hypo.

I was thinking about doing that :grin01:

When i search for the island the correct term is Hog Island spelled with one g but when people say hogg for short, there is always 2 g's. Which is it actually? do you only use the double g when you are shortening it? or is that how it's actually spelled?

And a Hogg is a BCI? right? Still new to all the terms

That's what I would have done in your case! 'No mom, I didn't buy her, he gave her to me!'

Well, I've also seen it spelled both ways. I tend to spell it 'Hog' if I'm not using the 'cute' version (hoggie). I can't get to my boa book right now (sleeping kitten on my lap and I don't want to wake him) to verify, but I do believe 'Hog' is the correct way.

Yes, they are BCI just like Colombians and the other island localities (such as Crawl Cay, Caulker Cay, and Corn Isle).

Welcome to the world of boa owning...you'll never go back. They are such special snakes!

Edit: As for price, you'd probably end up spending anywhere from $100-$300 on a hoggie, depending on quality.

Hmmm, i don't think i'll be getting her a friend too soon at that price lol

Boas are definitely a different snake. It's nice holding the corn snake, then going to the boa cause they are completely different when you handle them. It's nice to mix it up :)

Wow- she's gorgeous!!! Name her a cute girlie name and your mom will get to like her!!

Thank you Nanci! I was thinking of continuing my theme even though she isn't a corn (the movie "Chronicles of Riddick"). So i was thinking Kyra for her name. For those of you that haven't saw the movie, it's pronounced Keer-rah. I'm not good with spelling out pronunciations though, but i think i did pretty good with that one lol :D

This little girl weighs 599 grams, looks a little on the skinny side but it's crazy that some corns get bigger than this!

She is so pretty! Reminds me so much of my own beautiful hoggie who is cooled off for the winter (we're not breeding her (yet) but she was eating way too much so she needs a diet period lol), wont be seeing her again until springtime!

I got one good head shot and 2 good tongue shots :)

And i got her measured at using snake measurer 3'11" :)

My corn snake roams a lot and will rarely hold on tight like the boa almost always does. I like the boa cause it's a change of pace, she loves to just sit there and holds on tight and i like having them hold on like that. It's nice to have one of each!! :)
