homicidal/cannibal corn?

Will corn tankmates kill or eat eachother if corns of different sizes are housed together?

for instance, will an adult eat hatchings? or if a small corn is introduced into a tank with a larger corn will the larger one kill the little one?

Corns will eat each other even if they are the same size. If you are putting a hatchling in with an adult you are just asking for trouble. the baby is going to look like a snack to the big guy. Even if they dont eat each other it can still saverly stress out the snakes as they will think that have to compete for territory. Do a search on cohab within the forum. It is never a good idea to house to snakes together. Hope this helps and i dont want to sound mean. good luck with your snakes

thanks for the advice. my sister wanted to house 2 corns together in a huge tank instead of having 2 seperate. I told her it probably wasn't a good idea but i'd look it up for her anyway. She also wanted to house a cali king with her corn(s)...i'm not sure what she was thinking. So thanks again, not maybe she'll listen to me...lol.

If it is a very large tank you can split the tank. A few people have done that. But like I said it would have to be a big tank to be able to house an adult comfertable on one side. I think a 55 gal could be split to house to corns or a corn and cali. More people will respond with ideas and suggestions. As i still dont know or have the answer to everything.

You're to be commended for checking first on behalf of your sister's snakes! I wish everyone cared so much. As other have said, it's possible to split a big a tank for two snakes. I currently have a 40-gal split, in which I'm housing 2 yearlings. They're both female, just in case one manages to get to the other side. I betting that's a "when" rather than an "if."

Don't, DON'T, DDOONN'TT house a king near a corn. I'd put them in separate rooms if possible. In nature, they're predator and prey. You probably wouldn't set up housing for a parakeet and a cat, right? Even if the parakeet was out of reach, having a predator right beside him all the time would be a definite source of stress for the prey animal. It's bound to be the same for a corn snake, although they don't exhibit stress in the same manner as a warm-blooded animal.

Good luck with the snakes. And good on you for asking!

corn + king = 1 fat king. Good thing your sister has you to keep her from make a bad decision.

what about to 20inch corn snakes together? in a 20 gallon tank?

Still a risk of cannibalism, I'm afraid.

Plus there's the greater risks of breeding too early (male+female) or fighting/injury (same sex couples). In addition, there's the stress factor which could lead to feeding problems or other health issues.

Best advice is to avoid it.

k thank you did u check out my site

Yes, just now. I see 2 problems so far....
First, corn snakes do not come in "breeds" like dogs.
They are color morphs or genotypes, but never "breeds".

Also, adult snakes that eat thawed food should never be fed live mice. Once they are eating frozen, there is absolutely no reason to switch them.

Also water should be checked everyday for fecal matter and bedding and i personal feel that you should clean out the water at least every other day. They use the water for both bathing and drinking and i wouldnt want to drink my bath water.

Sorry just noticed another thing. "Two corn snakes should be fine in a 50 gallon tank from birth to death." This is not correct one you need to specifie that the tank is split no co-habing. placing a hatchling in a large tank can sometimes cause them stress so that is why it is better to work your way up to a larger encloser from a smaller one.

I really don’t want to sound rude or mean but i feel that you still have a lot more learning to do before you make a page about snakes. A lot of your information is incorrect. Especially the breeding section. I would like to ask that you read some more books on corns and how to care for them. Once again not trying to sound mean but you still have a lot of learning ahead of you and you don’t want to give other new snake owners the wrong information.

Wow, I should have kept reading!
The breeding section has got alot of problems!

Sorry kid, your page has alot of really bad advice on it...

1 Snake = 1 Tank / Bin / Viv

If you don't have the means to house multiple snakes separately then you shouldn't have multiple snakes. That simple.

Can I recommend that you refer your sister to the FAQ on this site.

If she already has snakes yet still doesn't know some very important basics, then a crash course in proper care would really answer a lot of her questions and help her keep her snakes alive and thriving.

Having her join the site would help too :)
