So we have had our tank set up for a couple of days, we are tracking temps and such to make sure everything is running properly for when we get our snake. I think that for beginners we have done pretty well. The first day I got a reading of 89 and then 90 at the surface and hotter under the substrate, but after fiddling with the thermostat a bit, now I get 84-86 on the surface and a pretty constant 87-88 on the glass above the UTH and the cool side was holding nicely between 68-72 degrees, but then last night it got really cold. Outside it was freezing and we do not run a heater, just a space heater for when we shower But even without heat it has never gotten colder than 50 in the house.
Anyways the cool side got down to 55 degrees, and I am wondering if that is WAAAYYY to cold or if it is ok because the warm side stayed warm at 85 degrees? Should I try covering the cool side and leaving the warm side open to see if it can insulate things a bit on the cool side, or should I leave it be because the warm temp is still warm enough or what?
Thanks for any help or advice,
Dinah
