How do I encourage him to come out of hide, once in while

I know that snakes generally spend the most time where thy are comfortable, and of course he loves his hide.

But I do like to hold him every so often, and every since I got him this new hide (a box with a whole cut out of it) he spends all the time in there.

Sometimes I attempt to get him out to hold and play with him, I don't want to shake it, and I don't ant to reach in and pull him out, because I shouldn't do any of these?

He does come out to drink and eat, all that, but I'd like to see if I could get some more one on one time.

So how can I get him out sometimes?

He's only going to come out when he wants to or when you pick him up and force him too.
It's not like he can come when called :shrugs:
Sounds like you're doing what the rest of us are.

Edit: also, go ahead and pull him out, if he bites you big deal he'll learn that you won't put him down.
He's not gonna be scarred for life or anything don't worry.

Some snakes are just more shy. You could try putting in some silk plants and other decorations; those might help him to feel more secure outside of his hide. But if he doesn't like being out then he won't come out. I have some who never use their hides and others who I never see them out.

But also don't be afraid to just remove his hide and take him out. He probably won't mind, and if he does strike, stay strong and pick him up anyways. They'll get over it and will soon be just find being taken out.

Yea, that is what I am thinking. Well atleast I know he loves his box.

I'll just be slow and remove him from time to time to let him slither around me.

P.S. Corny noob- You got a snake named Ekans? That is awesome.

ok, I had a short holding session

No biting, but he kept tensing up alot. I am sure as I continue to hold him, he will get used to me.

This all won't stress him out or have any negative effects, right?

What kind of hide does she stay in?

My Eve spends 90% of her time curled up in the fake plants, so when I want to play, I just un-stick the plant she's in and hold it in my hand. She crawls right off.

This is why I only use hides that have no bottom. For hatchlings, a paper towel or tp tube cut in half lengthwise. Coconut halves. Other commercial hides, but they always need an open bottom so you can just lift the hide up off the snake when you need to get it out. It's quick and easy and no stress from trying to catch it and drag it out of a box that it doesn't want to leave.

I know what you mean about you wanting to handle the snake but then not wanting to "force" it out of its nice hiding place. From my experience, when i used to want to play with slinky i would just take out the hiding place he was in and then make a lil bit of noise or vibrations and after a lil he would poke his head out and then start sniffing. After that he would seem more awake and then decide that, yes, he does want to come out. There, both of us were happy :p

If he was just in his log I would do the same. But now I just open what ever he is in and pick him up, he don't care. He isn't shy any more :)
