I've tried and tried but I can't seem to get the image I want to be the correct size and meet all the standards to be the avatar image for my posts...what size do I have to make the image??? (be aware I am using Photoshop to do the resizing...) If anyone can help me get this image on as my avatar image I would be very grateful..thanks...
 
Go to "Image Size" under the Image tab. Set your size to be 100x100 pixels. Then, under the File tab, click "Save for web", and this will compress the file and make it appropriate for avatar. It will be saved as a gif.
