Well, I knew I should stop browsing the giant snake forums. I had been toying with the idea of getting an albino burmese for a while, but then I ran across an ad for albino lavender retics. Happily, they were way more money than I wanted to pay.

However, today I saw an ad for one for under $600 and I knew I was a goner. ALFie (Albino Lavender Female) will arrive next week. She's only 24" now, but could hit eight feet her first year. I had already promised to move my snakes out of the laundry room and into a spare bedroom when I moved my DYH (double yellow head) amazon parrot into the family room upon arrival of his designer cage. I'm picking that up next weekend at a local bird show.

My wife and daughter will never go in the snake room, I'm sure. Do you think it's possible to keep an 16-20 foot snake hidden forever? :sidestep:

That snake is gorgous!! I don't think I would be able to resist if you paid me..lol...but wow..from 2 ft to 8 ft in her first year?? that's a growth spurt..I do wish you luck with hiding her...She is gorgous :0)
 
I normally hate pythons, and normally don't much like albinos...but no, I wouldn't have been able to resist either. Beautiful snake. :)
 
I am amazed at how lavendar she is! So beautiful, holy cow...

Perhaps you might hold off breeding her until you actually do figure out how to hide one ; )

Lol, I was thinking that when I read the title of the post... that, and, when the family dog goes missing... :D

But seriously..
I love their look, and will get back into them some day, but for now I'll stick with the ones I can comfortably remove from their tanks and tubs by myself... Which raises the question, who do you have around to help during cleaning, feeding, breeding, or any those "just in case" situations? Being locked in a snake room by yourself with a secret large snake might not be a great idea.... :shrugs:

I'll have to agree on that one. Perhaps not the most responsible choice, its best to have a back up plan with a snake of that size and to be honest, if anything were to happen to you, it would be wise for your wife to be aware of what is in the house.

I am sure you know to take all percautions possible etc, however an, animal is an animal, things happen :shrugs:

Nanci, my wife pays more for a handbag than I paid for this snake, but she might object to an animal longer than her car in the bedroom next to ours. :eek1:
And, yes, she is pretty, isn't she?...the snake...My wife is pretty too. Oh, I better stop before I get into any more trouble.
 
are these type of snakes agressive? i'm sure i seen that they can eat pigs! well if thats so, i take my hat of to you, because i would not be able to keep a snake that size, although i would be interested in some pictures when he/she is a little older : )

I've drooled over photos of the albino lav retics myself. But they're a little too much snake for me. As Dirty Harry once said: "A man's gotta know his limitations". ;)

All right, already...I'm just joking here. I have no intention of paying "secret garden" with a 20 foot snake. I have done my homework on owning a giant snake. I would never haul a big snake out of it's enclosure without a backup buddy standing near by.

As far as my wife's concerned, she sat patiently on the aft deck reading a magazine when I berthed my 40 foot cruiser for the first time by myself (now,that was an expensive hobby). I'm sure she will be just as patient with my latest acquisition. One of the things one can expect after 37 years of marriage.

Now all, I have to do is figure out who gets the 20 foot snake in the will. Hey,if you don't take the snake, you don't get the money.
 
You've gotta get the kid to like the snake- then you don't have to worry about the will!

LOL! There's something that's probably not often seen in the fine print of a Will.. "you want my money, you must take my 20ft Retic and care for her as if she is your baby" :grin01:
 
how long can I hide.............

show your wife straight away then every day there after. not only will she be desensitized to it but she might not notice how big its getting :cheers:

and hope for the best :twoguns:
