how long shed last

My corn went through her blue stage. Now she is in her shed that started monday. She shed the skin off her head, but that is it. Her whole body still needs to shed, i can see the old skin there but wont come off. Does it usually take this long to shed? I started putting her in the bath tub for 10 minutes to soak the skin.

I too would like to know how long it takes a snake to shed. My one and a half year old corn has been shedding for about 6 days now. It never used to take this long.

Your snake should shed its entire skin at the same time, and in one piece. You may want to add a "moist" hide in her viv. You can assist her in shedding by putting her in a small tib that will complete keep her body submerged in water (80-85 degrees) and then using moistened paper towel wrapped around her and gently sliding it down the length of her body from head to tail.

I have only had one shed with my corn, he/she is still pretty new. That took literally 10 minutes.

Hope that helps :D

My question might actually be different than the original poster. I meant how long is your snake in blue before shedding? It used to take my snake just a few days but this time he's in blue and the last time seemed to take forever.

Put her in a small tupperware container. Put a wash cloth or a dish cloth in it. Fill just over the cloth with some slightly warmer than room temp water. Place snake in and let it slither around, with the lid on. This may be enough to work off the shed, but if it doesn't try again later. Also, let her slither through a warm wet wash cloth that you have in your hand and try to work it off gently.

Good Luck

It can take about a week. Usually a few days after they loose that blue color, they slough their skin. Try to bring up the humidity in their viv at this time. It helps make the shed come off easier.

Good Luck

I'm reading this on a Monday. Does that mean that the snake began her shed a week ago and still has most of the old skin on her body? If so, you need to be extra vigilant about trying to help her get it off. That old skin can cause serious problems after so long. After her bath, put on some cotton gloves or wrap your hands in a rough washcloth or towel. Let her crawl through your snug grip, which may get most of the old skin off.

Normally I'd suggest dabbing at her with some masking tape (not super-sticky tape like duct tape) to help remove anything that didn't come off after her bath-and-crawl session. Since this has been on so long, you'll have to be careful not to pull too hard and possibly damage new skin beneath the old.

Don't take this lightly; a stuck shed can be a minor problem, but the longer it goes the greater its potential to cause serious health issues. If you have access to a good reptile vet, you may want to give him/her a call.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I wouldn't call for the vet till you tried some of the tricks posted. I bought a humid hide from the local pet store, filled it with moist moss. I add the hide once the snake blues.
I recently bought/ rescued a baby corn from craigslist that had a stuck shed. Put in the humid hide and the next morning all the shed was off. The next day, the poor girl was blue again. That means the shed was probably 2 weeks old and no adverse reactions.

I'm certainly not advocating rushing to a vet prior to attempting home remedies. I'm saying that if the home remedies don't help, don't let things drag on.

i just fed her monday so she isn't going to move for a couple of days. I took a rubbermade container and cut an opening, and filled it with wet paper towel. I hope after she digest her food she will go into it. I have been giving her a bath twice a day. Ive got about half of it off. I will keep it up after she is done digesting her food.
