I usually put them in their new home and don't disturb them at all for 4-6 days. After this first week has passed, I offer a small meal and return them to the tub. If there is no problem with the initial feeding, I will start them on a normal feeding schedule. I will usually refrain from handling them for 2-3 weeks.

When you do start normal handling time, keep it short initially (10-15 minutes at a time). Hope this helps!

I waited 5 days before I feed or handled mine. On the fifth day I feed him his "first" meal and after 2-3 days he deficated for the "first" time. And I checked to make sure it look "normal". After that I then began handling him for about 15 minutes each day until it was time for him to eat again.

My Plan

Hi,
When I got my baby snake I handled her for 10 mins when my house was all quiet then I got her out again about 4 days later then on the 7th day when she settled in I fed her so just try my plan and see how it goes

Hope That Helps

Oh..now I'm worried!
I bought my first hatchling today and I already took it out once to put it in the little box to eat a pinkie!

So that's being handled in the store, the trip home (20 mins) and being handled once..well twice if you count being taken out of the tank and back in! It was only 10 seconds or less though.

Should I worry?

Don't worry. Not handling a new member of your collection for a few days is just a rule of thumb. It allows the snake to settle in to its new home with as little stress as possible. After feeding, always leave the animal alone for at least 2-3 days so that the meal can be digested properly.

In the future, look at waiting a few days before feeding. Once again, this is to ensure a less stressful transition.

Gook luck.
