I'm off on holiday and have no one who can look after my 2 kids.... whats the longest poosible time i can leave them without a water change.. I'm off on holiday on the monday morning and will be back sometime on the firday afternoon/evening..

last time i was away for 3 nights and the guy at the store said just get a bigger water bowl and they should be fine...

do you agree... should i force someone into looking after them...?

Re:

So you're going to be gone for 5 days, is this correct?

I would agree with the guy at the pet store with the larger water bowl.

When I was on vacation for a week, I got a larger bowl and also kept the normal bowl in the viv just in case. The snake didn't run out of water the entire week.

I wouldnt have thought that running out of water was the issue (you would insure they couldnt). The problem would be if they fouled the water and then drank it for four days.....

You could get one of those automatic waterers for cats. There like like a plastic bottle with a dish hooked up.

Could they use a gerbil water bottle do you think? Those things ahve a permanent drop of water on the nozzle. It would be slow going but they could still get water and have no chance of fouling it.

Ummm, I doubt it

but stranger things have happened. Anyone ever try a hamster bottle on a snake? I bet if they were thirsty and found it, they'd try. My concern is that they couldn't extract water. Snakes, like horses, drink by sucking water into their mouths. You can actually pick up a larger snake while it's drinking and water will pour out if their heads are facing down!

I just got back from a week-long vacation a couple days ago and I didn't do anything different for them. My snakes don't have a habit of pooping the water dish, so I just made sure their bowls were full before I left.

If you're worried they'll poo in their water bowl, just put another one or two in the tank. I doubt they could foul up three bowls in five days.

but how would you know that they would be smart enough to drink from the "clean" water bowl?

Cornsnakes could go 5 days without water with no serious problems, (but I don't recommend that). So I would just go and not worry about the slight chance that they might run out of water for a day or two.
IMO
