My daughter went to check on her 5 month old hypo okeetee yesterday morning and she was gone. 12 snakes in the house and the only one to ever go missing is the one my 10 year old daughter spent 5 months bugging relatives and neighbors for odd jobs for to raise the money to buy. She even talked her uncle into letting her put it on his "out of the egg" order from Rich this summer and paid her part of the shipping. She then begged, borrowed, and bought all the equipment she needed. I know that this isn't really relavent to my question, but dang I wished when I sent her crying to school yesterday that one of mine had gone missing instead. Hrm..feel slightly better for getting the off my chest.
Anyway, the question. I know she can go for quite awhile without food, the snake not my daughter, but how long can she go without water? If I set a couple water dishes out, but she doesn't come across them how long could we realistically hold out hope that she will show up eventually?
 
I've read a lot of posts over the last couple of years where folks lost their corn, and found it months later. I would assume they could go quite a while.

Put empty toilet paper rolls and coffee cans around the walls in the room it was lost in Maybe she'll use one as a hide.
 
I went to a zoo that had quite a few snakes there. The zoo keeper told us of one of his corns they had rescued from a flat. It had been there in a box with no food or water for 6 months. Bear in mind this is a fully grown corn, yours is hatchling no? I'm sorry for your daughter, she must be really upset. Good look in finding your snake.
 
you could also try and set out pinks and heat lamps. have heard varying success with these.

That's a shame. It's good you were able to vent. I'm sorry your daughter's snake is missing and I hope that it will be recovered soon. The loss (temporary or permanent) of a pet is very difficult on a child, I lost my pet salamander when I was ten and I can seriously say a piece of my heart was missing for a while...I would imagine the snake could probably go a while without water, but I would recommend, as someone did above I believe that you put a few small saucers of a water along the perimeter of whichever room the enclosure is in or/and in rooms you think the snake may have wandered to. It's very rewarding for a child to earn something on their own and I can tell your daughter worked very hard to purchase this snake, indeed you have a wonderful daughter and I hope that the little snakeling shows up soon :)

I'm so sorry. I fully understand what it's like to lose something you worked SO hard to get.

This may sound like an obvious question but did you look in ALL the obvious places? Sometimes when you think your snake has gone missing, it's just tucked far up inside a hide or something, or it's in a place where you looked but didn't see.

I have a 5 1/2 month normal with really pretty colors that I would be willing to send to your daughter for Christmas if you pay for the shipping and someone tells me how to ship it. I love her colors and her personality, but I would much rather a child who is missing her snake have her than me with 3 others. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's snake. Hopefully it will turn up soon. I would triple check everywhere. I lost mine and found her 2 days later stuck up in one of the hides. It was this castle thing and her being grey and it was grey I only caught her by accident with a flash light.

One other thing you can do is put powder or flour at the doorways. They you can tell is they move rooms.

I'm sorry about your daughter's missing snake. Like everyone has said, keep looking. There is a good chance it will turn up. On the off chance it doesn't, and you want to take Jenny up on her offer, I will pay for the shipping. Just let me know how much and where to mail the check. I have a young daughter myself, and a young son, and know how heart-broken they can be when a treasured pet is lost.
 
If you have a chance, check in the search function for suggestions on catching missing snakes. There are a bunch of ways listed there. A lot of people have found them very close to where they were kept. Check inside hollow curtain rods, inside drawers and under the viv. Any tiny place that's dark and secure.
 
Still no sign at all. We have tried many things that have been mentioned here and no sign at all. I'm wondering if maybe she crawled through a vent in the boa cage, which is close to the corn rack and my 6' red tail had her as a snack.
I very much appreciate the offer Jenny, that was indeed very kind of you. Fortunately my brother in law who has a clutch of Green Trees that are due to pip on Christmas offered her one of the babies if her corn doesn't show up by then. Thanks all for the suggestions and feedback, it is much appreciated.
 
I'm sorry for your daughter's loss...and I understand how stressful it can be.

I lost two snakes this year...I found one after 2 weeks and the other after 3 weeks. Both were in great health and doing just fine...I have heard of other people losing snakes and not finding them for months...especially this time of year when they may decide to brumate, depending on the temps where they are.

You can make traps, which did not work for me...but have been known to do the trick...you can also put out a heat mat and a hide and hope they find it...

Keep in mind that snakes will generally travel along the edges of walls and not in the middle of the floor.

Tell your daughter to keep her chin up...my snakes weren't ANYWHERE to be found...and I tore the basement apart looking for them...and then they just popped up one day...
The day I found the first one is the same day the second one went missing.

I am sure it is still around somewhere...
