How much should I pay for a citrine motley? (5 morphs)

The local herp store has one that they're asking a ton of money for. Since it's such a rare snake I can't find a way to compare prices on it.

How much is a reasonable price for such a snake?

Are you sure that is what it is? I wonder who the breeder was. How would it even end up in a pet shop? What are they asking for it? Is it listed on Ian's Vivarium as an existing morph? (I don't see it.) My question is- it it really what they say it is.

It's a pet shop that only sells reptiles, mainly snakes. They get a lot of morphs, but this is the first time I've seen one this rare.

I've been going there for over 10 years and I've been shiested a few times. I bought one snake there that was on deaths door and died in two days. I also bought blood pythons there that they said were CB, but had mites and were aggressive, I don't think they were CB.

Sadly, for reptiles they're the only game in town. Also, I've had many positive experiences with them too. The positive experiences outweigh the negative with these guys.

They want $400 for the snake, and as far as I can tell, it's what they say it is. On the other hand, I wouldn't put it past him to sell a similar looking snake as a motley citrine if he could get away with it.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add, they do a lot of their own breeding. I think corn snakes are one of the things they breed in house.

Well, if it is what they say it is, it's a world's first, maybe. Certainly there aren't more than two or three. That would maybe put it's price at $1000-$1200, maybe more, maybe less, depending on how much someone wanted it.

Do you have plans for that particular snake?

Don't forget, you're in easy shipping distance for Florida, or much of the US, and there are a number of breeders in FL producing rare morphs, Steve Rylance in particular.

I don't know- to me- it seems sketchy. I'd question them in depth about the parents, and ask to see them.

Everything is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. That being said, that snake wouldn't be worth that much to me unless I had some serious breeding plans for it. As far as pet/display, I don't think the one on ians looks much nicer than many regular snows that I've seen. For that much money or less, you could get a lot of really cool morphs. A peppermint stripe, for instance.
