Just b/c you don't see/smell it, it doesn't mean it's not there...

Believe me on this one. My snakes burrow all through their aspen, pooping as they go along. You really have to sift through the substrate to find the stuff. Repti-bark isn't any different. Have a fun search! ;)
You definitely should find some poop. In 2 weeks, your snake should have dumped a few times.

I spot clean whenever I find poop in the substrate (which is like every 3 or 4 days) and do a full change every 3 or 4 weeks.
I still keep 2 hatchlings on paper towels though and that I change every time it gets soiled.

I use

Paper towel so that when my snakes poop, I can see it right away and change it. It is not very eye catching but its really clean.

Iris is right, a couple poops should be somewhere in there!

Hi,
I use Aspen because it is light in colour and that make the poop stand out like a sore thumb. I spot clean as I see anything, and I do a total clean every 3-4 weeks.
I clean my water bowl every 2 days or sooner if it gets pooped in.

The type of substrate you use plays a part in how often you clean out the cage. 'Spot cleaning' should be done at all times but some materials are generally more clean than others. Damp and unclean floorings are heaven for all sorts of nasty bacteria and need to be cleaned regularly but substrates that are designed to absorb fluid (and more often than not have a drying effect on the animals also) can go a little while longer than others without being cleaned. Unless you buy substrates in bulk, most have instructions on how often to change them and how often to completely disinfect the cage.
I'm currently (but not for long) using Calci-Sand which I sift through every two weeks and change every month (it's supposed to last for six months but I don't trust it). I bleach the viv every two weeks. I'm soon going to start using Astro-Turf which I will disinfect every week because it can get quite nasty.

wow

I am surprised you are "going there" with the astro turf. I have tried this before but it caused me nothing but problems. Loss threads, unraveling, and extremely hard to clean.

Let us know how the turf works out! I might try it again someday...

i use repti bark, my corns defecate 5-6 days after i feed them (they are 30 in. long) so i don't look until then. but when they do I can see it and just scoop it out. i also put newspaper below the repti bark to just roll everything up when its time to clean
i clean every 3 weeks

if you can't find anything and have to search for it in the bark, don't put a lot of bark in if you just put an inch in they'll do it on the top instead of in the bark. or just put enough bark in one part of the tank for borrowing and don't as much on the other side. or put the borrowing area in a quarter of the tank and leave the rest an inch deep where they can do it on the top, and if they do do it in the borrowing area it will be a small area to look in not the whole cage

I use Sani Chips Aspen. VERY easy to spot clean, so I only do a full bedding change about once every 2 months or so - only replacing a bit as needed for the waste removal.

Since I remove my snakes from their tank to feed them, I tend to spot clean every week.

I agree that it depends on the bedding. Two of my snakes are on reptile bark mixed with eco earth. I haven't done a total substrate change in 4-5 months. One of my girls is on categories which will start to smell after a month or so even with spot cleaning.
