Hi.

I get mine out four days a week, I leave him for three days after feeding as this could cause regurgitation. I normally hold mine for about an hour but 15 - 20 mins is fine!

There is no "should" about handling... some of the bigger breeders on here only handle theirs when they are feeding. Unlike a dog, as long as a snake is fed and their water bowls are full of clean water, there are no other required care... well, cleaning the cage when it's needed is also a given. If you have a hateling, you might want to handle more, but other than that.. the time you give them is the time you give them. My daughter often fusses that I should handle mine more... but oh well...

I used to handle my snakes several times a week, but not so much anymore as i have gotten busy. That's what's great about snakes, though. As stated above, as long as their requirements are met, they don't care if you pay them attention or not. Yet, they are always there when you want to get them out.

I hold mine all the time(it seems) except for the 2 days after feeding, sometimes 3, pending on the size of the meal.

ours gets handled several times per day with the exception of the feed/digestion days. she seems to love sitting with us.

I see a pattern here... I handle my corn 4 or 5 days a week, only leaving him for the few days after feeding. Handling time varies from 15-20 minutes, up to an hour or more. It all depends on what time I have available...

I usually handle mine every other day unless I just fed them (then I wait 2 days). I hold them for about 10 minutes each (the 5 babies). I might hold my miami phase a bit longer because since I have owned her longer, she is a lot calmer and will rest on my arm while i am typing on the computer. The two adults I have not gotten much of a chance to handle since they are semi-bruminating (Florida has such funky weather!).

well i just dont want my snake to become hostile so that if i havent handled him for a week he will flip out no good

Really what is there to fear from a 3-4 months old corn snake?? I laugh at them when they try to bite.

But seriously, hold him a few minutes maybe once a week. Little corns really do not like to be held, IMHO. As they get about the 1 year mark, then hold them for a bit.. but I really keep my little snakes holding to a minimum. I just do not like stressing them out, now adults its a different story. i will hold them for 30 minutes or more at a time.

But to have an aggressive corn?? well those odds are very low. I have not been attacked by one of my adult corns, and trust me I have plenty.

But also remember, your snake may not or never sit still for you. You can have 20 plus snakes and not one will sit still and you can have only 1 snake and it will sit on your lap for hours. Its really Russian roulette when it comes to personalities of snakes.

thanks to everyone here and my snakes fine for handleing but if i go to pick him up out of the cage he likes to go into an "s" type striking position. In which case i wait till he turns away and pick him up. He did strike once and i didnt even think he got me but he did it was like a little scrape on my knuckle red but no blood.

Too much stress

I am relatively new to corn snakes. However, I have spent quite some time in different snake forums to educate myself. Most experienced breeders say a corn ( in particular a young one ) should only be handled when necessary, i.e. when cleaning the tank, replace the water etc. The reason is that every time you pick up your snake it causes stress. Imagine you are sleeping in your bed room and suddenly a giant hand is coming through the window and grabs you ! I am sure this will also stress you out.

Am I wrong ?
