How to get a good headshot?

Oh, it's a lot like an SLR, but it isn't.

not a bad setup - one of the best looking non-dSLR i've seen - it even has a hot shoe! sadly, no PC port...

Keep in mind when shooting, that the front of your lens needs to be at least 20cm away from your snake to focus correctly.

I'd try using a regular lens and try getting as close as you can ..... Auto focus helps so much ...Cause my snakes wont hold still so one hand is used to try to get the snake where you want it... Like nanci said earlier shoot many and as quick as you can.

Here's a simple technique to getting a good headshot.



I turned off all the lights in the room, and held her in my hand. I angled the flash straight up at the ceiling, so the flash bounced straight back down on her and didn't illuminate any of the background.

You could probably approximate it with an assistant holding a flashlight, or a heatlamp dome with a regular light in it.

Also, you camera will need an auto focus assist light, or else it won't be able to focus in the dark.

After trying that same technique at a friends house I've figured out you also need a smooth ceiling. His ceiling had that textured plaster stuff on it and the flash didn't reflect, it diffused and lit the whole room.

actually its a quicky snoot - it slips over the end of the flash and narrows the beam of light, again allowing me to put light right where I want it to go, and, with the snoot, putting it where I DON"T want it to go...

quicky snoot = snake hide Now I'm looking through all my hatchlings cages...hehe

Ok, so I have my camera, and I have a flash (that dosen't fit on my camera, and that dosent have any way to wire up to my camera), so any ideas? I'm not sure how to get the flash to go off at the same time as the camera.

Still playing with my Sony Cybershot, at least I should know how it works

Well I was thinking DSLR but have a Sony Cybershot DCS W5 P&S. I had it so messed up that there was no way to take a good picture. Did some reading and figured out how to get back to factory presets and things are getting better this pic taken at factory settings plus Macro setting. I now realise this camera has manual mode and am going to do a bunch more playing before I pay the money and step up to the DSLR's. I also think I will invest in a photography coarse at the community college once I do spend the money to move up!!

I prefer to use a video camera, has to be really nice, then using the video with a computer program you catch stills that are totally amazing!:dancer:
