How would you prove a Ghost was a Ghost and not anery het hypo?

Just curious, how would you test a snake to prove it is Ghost and not just Anery het hypo? I know the obvious answer would be to breed to a known Ghost but what if none were available?

Breeding trials are the only accurate way to determine if a ghost is really a ghost and not an anery. I have seen some ghosts that are black as black can be, and some anerys that are so light they look like perfect ghost examples.

Susan I know breeding trials are the only way to prove it lol. Thats why I asked what to use to prove it :) Shiari, by breeding to a hypo anything I would prove the snake in question how? Because if its a ghost bred to a hypo I get all hypos het anery and if its an anery het hypo I would see some normals? I'm asking to be sure I have it right.

Yup!

If you breed it to a homozygous hypo, you will get ALL hypos if it is also homozygous for hypo. If it's only het, about half the clutch would be normals.

Sorry! Misunderstood your question. As Megan said, breeding it to anything homozygous hypo (hypo lav, amber, ghost, etc) shoudl produce 100% hypo offspring if no other genes match up. If you get just one normal, it's het hypo. But then, with dark hypos, you run into telling them apart from the normals again. ;)

Thanks guys! Now I am hoping my hypos are a pair. I want to see if either of their parents are homo hypo or just both het.
