Hello everyone!

Somehow I've managed to keep a corn snake alive for going on fifteen years now and never even thought to look for this website until today!

Sparky (I'll post pics once I say hi...) was an "estimated" two years old when I bought him from a college buddy back in '95. He was one of those guys who always thought it would be cool to have a snake but didn't know much about them.

I guess I'm not much better - I'd have to say that based on my level of knowledge compared to what I've seen here, pure luck is all that's kept him alive all these years. :D A friend remarked today that he (Sparky) sure is gettin' old, hey how old *is* he anyway? This led me to poke around on the internet, trying to find out how much longer I can expect to enjoy his company, and next thing you know I'm here.

I've already found out that he's an Okeetee (I never knew that) and now I have some good ideas for things I can do to make him a happier snake, thanks to you guys.

Anyway, I'm going to go sift for some pics and read some more posts. Talk to y'all soon!

Well welcome! I'm glad you looked. I found this after I got my snake and learned a lot. I don't know if you can make a snake happy, but it can be comfortable.

I know his brain is the size of a BB and he's probably physically incapable of what we know as "happy"... but I *swear* I can tell when he's happy and when he's pissed!

Welcome to CS.com, you should find lots of helpful info here and if you can't find the answer to a question, then feel free to ask, we don't bite ;)

Life expectancy of a corn snake? I believe it can be 20+ years in captivity, for a healthy corn and if I remember rightly, Kathy Love mentions in her book, that there have been corns in captivity recorded at just over 30 years, so you could have his company for a while yet :)

Welcome to CS.com buddy.
When I got my first corn, I found this site right after.
I've learnt alot of great infos about them.

Enjoy!

Welcome and enjoy. By the way, if you've had a single corn since '95, you're something of a novelty here. Most of us find it too difficult to limit ourselves to just one, no matter what our original intentions were. May you and Sparky continue to enjoy each other's company for years to come!

Wow... he's 15 years old and you JUST found out about this site! Seems to me that you've been doing a decent enough job! Good going!

I'm sure you'll find some ways to "tweak" your care here... I'm sure that most of us have.

Welcome!

Fred

Welcome!
My brother just got a corn snake and then did research and found out how long they live--I think he was shocked! Sometimes it is probably nicer when you just realize that you've had them for a long time rather then worrying about the years in the future!
