How's my setup?(Pic Included)

How's this for a setup? It's warmed up to around 85-87 now, which I've heard isn't optimal, but he'll still be fine. I couldn't really find a great place for the water bowl, so I put it in the middle. I'm seeing little pieces of white stuff in the bowl sometimes, is that something to worry about? I change it as soon as I spot it. What does poop look like anyway? It'll probably be rather hard to spot on my repti-bark, as I have no idea what to look for.

I've heard that live plants don't do too well on the warm side of the tank, so I made him a little jungle on the cool side. Seem's to prefer it, really. Probably makes him feel safer than on the bare warm side...

I've seen him climbing his trees, and he even tried to dig up one of his trees. I'm guessing that's his burrowing instincts?

I've had him crawl around on me a few times already...while he seemed a bit nervous the first time, he seems fine now.

And one more...I couldn't resist. I find it actually quite cool, even though it's rather blurry, unfortunately. That's him being fine with crawling all over me. :D That's him all shiny after his shed too.

That's a nice Okeetee you got there

You used the same hide for both warm and cool sides, good thinking (prevents your snake from picking favorite hiding spots and getting sick from getting too hot or too cool).

I have my water bowl on the warm side as it helps with humidty too and as for snake poo it's a black mush is yellowish liquid that kinda goes chalky after a while. Just check everyday that's what I do and spot clean when I see it then clean the whole tank with a 5% bleach solution about twice a month but if the poop's fresh - u know about it from a strange smell hehehe.

I'll have to warn you about putting your waterbowl on the warmside of the thank. Warm and humid is perfect for bacterial growth (along with fungal and mold). This is something to avoid. The other option would be to put trace amounts of GSE into your water if you MUST have the water bowl on the warm side.

Sponges placed on the warm side of the tank are great humidifiers for those who live in dry climates. The sponges will sort of get nasty and you'll need to disinfect them with bleach, after a while but atleast the snake isn't drinking the water from it.

that's the only hide they like and i dont have room for 2 so ya bt at least my corns sit on top of the other to cool down.

FWIW, be sure that you monitor the heat from that lamp. Not only will it produce higher than optimal temps, but heat lamps tend to over-dry the air and drop humidity levels. A good indicator will be fragmented sheds.

As a man who's interrested in Okeetee's, yours looks very beautiful. I really like the colors of those snakes.

Regarding the hides. I've never heard of using identical hides to prevent a favorite hide? Is this something I should be concerned with?

They do tend to have a prefernce i have a log and water bowl/hide combi in 1 they always used the combi but they're not living together now so she has the log and he has the combi i feel so horrible now they're seperated lol i'm such a dumbass with feelings

Rach

I have to say though that those plants will probably be destroyed as the snake gets bigger. Nice snake. Take care

First thing let me say this is my opinion.

I used aspen bedding because it is asorbent and cheap and easy for the snake to burrow in. I can get a giant bale for 12.99. the reptile bark can get expensive especially if you have to clean it often the snakes waste can get down in there and cause mites, fungus etc. also I use just plain butter bowl for hides cut a U in the front instant hide box. That if it get dirty it is easy to clean or just toss it out. For the water bowl I use different size rubbermaid bowls. it is a lot cheaper than having to buy a fancy ceramic and some other type bowl. It looks like you have the right idea for light and heat. I NEVER use a heat rock seen to many bad pics.

A couple of tricks I use:
If you need to get the heat up on your cage take a towel and cut a hole in it the size of your dome lay it over the top and roll it back this is a good way to regulate the heat always remember corns dont need the high temp some tropical snakes need low of 72 and high of 84 with hot spot and little higher.

When your snake is going into shed if you have room in the cage and right size bowl butter bowl works for young corn fill it with damp spaghum and cut a hole in the lid and snake will shed alot easier.
