humid hide

Personally, I use the laying tubs as a humid hide:
A rubbermaid box with the lid on, with a circular hole cut in the lid.
I fill it with moistened spaghnum moss, which needs misting on occasions to keep it moist.
I place the tub accross a temperature gradient in the cage.

Quickest dirtiest way to make a humid hide:

Get a cool whip container or similar disposable plastic container made of thin soft plastic and cut a whole big enough for the snake to crawl into on the SIDE of the container.

Fill container with damp paper towels or sphagnum moss.

Place on warm side of the tank.

Done. Quick and easy.

I like making the holes on the side ot the tubs, as well. It seems to keep the moisture in better.

I prefer the hole on the top. I find it to be a little cleaner - less spaghnum moss scattered as the snake goes in and out of the hide.

thanks but...

My snake is about 3 ft long and i don't think he will fit in a cool whip container so i will have to find somthing a lil bigger, but he is a 20 long so i might have to find a bigger cage first so everything can fit in there but thanks everyone

Also those Glad or Ziploc reuseable storage containers work well and they are easier to cut holes in the lid than the rubbermaid ones and even cheaper!

Just curious

Are you having an issue with incomplete sheds? I personally have never needed any external assistence within my collection.

My corn has had 2mm of skin left on her tail on both her last two sheds. First time the humidity was around 20% (too low i know) and this time it was at 50% after her eyes cleared until today (3 days). I guess she will most likely always haev this bit sticking. Is that right guys?

You can use moist paper towels to remove any leftover skin. Do not leave it for long because old sheds can cause problems.

Yeah, ive been doing that. Its no problem, she actually seems to enjoy it! She has always shed her eyecaps cleanly which is good. Ive borrow'd a digicam so i may post some pictures of her soon.
