For the past month or so, my humidity has been at an average temp. of around 45%, which is obviously fine for my corn. But recently the humidity has been around 35%. I live in Southern California and the temp. is getting hot very fast. So my question is, should I be misting the viv to raise the humidity on a daily basis or does it not matter to the corn unless it is shedding?

If it means anything, the first few days he was in blue-phase, the humidity was around 45% and the last few days, the humidity was around 35%. The shed was in roughly 4 pieces.
 
try moving the water bowl a lil over the warm side. or put plastic wrap over the screen lid if you have a screen lid.
 
I am going to try and move the water bowl closer to the warmer side to see if the humidity rises. But do snakes care what the temp. of their drinking water is? Provided it's not too hot or too cold.
 
No, no light bulb... I have a heat mat. When I first made my purchase, I used a heat mat and light-bulb but I did not have a hygrometer. I got rid of the light and since have used just the heat mat. As I've said before, the humidity was at 45% and it has since decreased. I'm pretty confident it is the weather and I will try moving the water bowl. Thanks for the help.
 
Im still a noob at this, so somebody else may be better suited to answer you a bit better on this, but since i live in area that can get pretty dry sometimes...

From what i have understood, the humidity isnt a real big issue unless the snake is getting ready to shed. Try to keep him up in the 25%-30% range if you can during non-shed times. It's when he goes blue, that youll want to keep him in the 40% - 60% range.

What i normaly do when my lil guy goes blue, is spray the inside of the viv down and cover about 75% (making sure that the heated side of the viv is entirely covered) of the top of his viv with an old, black, thermal shirt. I usualy follow this up with about 6 more sprayings through out the day untill he sheds. If it does not seem like his viv is holding in the moisture, then i spray the side of the shirt that is facing down a couple of times.
By doing this i can usualy keep the viv at about 60% the entire time.


I have been using this method since I first got my corn, and in the 3 sheds he has had so far, 2 were perfect, and 1 was in two pieces (basicly the tail portion came off as a second piece). The 2 piece shed I contribute to not spraying him down enough (i slacked off a little and missed a couple of spritzings).


Anyways, hope this helps.
 
I'm in So.Cal also and I haven't had a problem with sheds at all. I don't even mist anymore as poor shedding has not been an issue. I don't like placing the bowl on the warm side as I don't think the snakes like having warm water to drink and it promotes bacterial growth too rapidly. If you really think that your snake will have a bad shed, make a moist hide or do as Cycal does and mist once a day thru the shed cycle.
