humidity

corn snakes need moderate humidity, about 50%,in order to shed properly. too high and they could get a respiratory illness, too low and they won't be able to shed properly. there aren't really strict guidelines, but i'd say between 50-60% should be fine. :)

Corn snakes do not have excessive humidity needs. From my own experience, I wouldn't worry too much about humiidty apart from during a shed. You can increase the humidity at these times by either lightly spraying the cage, or supplying a humid hide.

If you are worried about humidity, you can purchase a humidity guage which sticks to the side of your vivarium. They are fairly inexpensive, I think.

Avoid the stick on ones. They are notorius for being inaccurate.

The one i had was off by about 20%. Go digital. A thermo/hygrometer combo should cost more then $15.

40-50% is actually better for corns... moderate humidity is more than enough...

A light misting or moist hide is good for when in shed though...

My viv is constantly around 35-45%. When shed comes around, I make sure to mist several times a day. My last shed was good, in that it was only in 2 pieces. So like everyone else has said, just make sure you have the humidity right when your corn is about to shed.

I don't know that I would make that leap. Stick-on thermometers should usually be avoided, but I've never had problems with my stick-on hygros. No, I haven't ever cross-checked them with a digital one, but I never had bad sheds or respiratory illnesses and all I used were stick-on types. :shrugs:
That's just my experience with them.:)

Since you are in Florida, and corns are native to that area anyway, they tend to do very well in ambient humidity. Raise it a bit during shed, and otherwise your snake will be ok.

I give it a good 3-4 mists. Just enough to raise it to 60%... then it seems to gradually decline.
