Hypo surprises in clutch! +zigzags and aztec

These little guys hatched out a couple weeks ago from what was thought to be a partial zigzag anery X normal het anery pairing. The male is actually a son of the female, and was the very first snake I ever hatched. As it seems to have turned out, the female is het for hypo and she passed it onto her son. Consequently, I got some little surprises in this clutch!

My confusion sets in, as to why there were no ghosts in this clutch ? Seeing as there was a total of 21 hatchlings and both parents were carrying the anery and hypo genes, I was expecting a couple of ghosts. Is Murphy just not being nice to me with this clutch?

Of course, I have some pictures of these buggers to share! There were a couple of nice zigzags, as I was hoping. This female always throws a bit of zigzag in her babies, and so I was looking forward to one or two really good hatchlings since she was paired up with her zigzag son.

The total count is 9 normals, 9 aneries, and 3 hypos. Here are some pics... enjoy!

I'm extremely please with this one here!! Absolutely no breaks at all from head to tail in his aztec patterning. The only aztec of the clutch to boot.

Wow, Lisa! They all look great, but that last one... Amazing! Congrats on getting him! I look forward to seeing more of him as he grows.

Thanks everyone! I'm very happy about him :D

Any ideas on why there were no ghosts in this clutch? Just bad luck?

Nice variety in the clutch Lisa. I love the aztec. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Murphy was just not being nice to you. Based on the genetics, you should have seen a ghost in the batch. Congrats on a great looking clutch!!!

Thank you for the kind words everybody!

In addition, good news! The aztec has repeatedly popped female so she will be a keeper. :D

All the babies are beautiful and, as with everyone else, I love the pattern on the last baby!

The "Light colored normal? hypo?" looks like a Hypo to me.

As to why no Ghosts ... it happens.;)
Sometimes, you just don't get both parents to throw each needed gene per hatchling. This can happen with a single, same, gene (heck, there have been clutches born where not a single hatchling, in the entire clutch, inherited the homozygous form/phenotype when both parents were 100% het for the same gene)... and, then, the odds just become greater the more genes (esp. when in het form in the parents) that you are trying to get into one, or more, offspring.
From het parents, ... you can get 0 (zero) babies to inherit the homozygous form ... or 100% of the babies to inherit the homozygous form ... or anything in between.
