I have some Hypos that I would like to get some opinions on.

The Motley is the darker of the two. Any reason for the difference in color. Why is the Motley version darker instead of lighter?

might just a different lineage?! since normals differ in phenotype, morphs differ too. maybe the lineage of the hypo motley tends to produce more melanin than the lineage of your hypo? I'd assume it's something like this?!

I thought the same thing as Jim. There also could be some hets playing a role in the coloration. What hets do they have?

Ok here is the background info. They are sisters, in fact I have 8 of these hold back Hypos. I have 1.2 Hypo Motleys het Caramel Opal Stripe (pos.het Anery) and I have 1.4 Hypo het Caramel Opal Stripe (pos.het Anery). The parents are (M) Amber Stripe het Anery X (F) Hypo Opal het Motley. So with all that said the Hypo Motley pictured is the only dark one I have, the other Hypo Motleys are coloring up kinda like Bloodreds....a nice solid bright RED. So I didn't know if there was more to this girl or if it was my stupid obsession. :)

She sure is dark for a hypo motley, but as mentioned, there is variation seen with any morph. Rich has always said "Hypo" is a 4-letter word and I have seen, even own, a really dark hypo. There may also be other factors involved, such as strawberry and/or red factor that may be causing some of the variation in color...ie, the redder ones having strawberry or red factor and this girl lacks it.

I was thinking Strawberry or RedCoat as well. Is there a lot of brown pigment on the belly of the "Hypo" Motley?

RedCoat on top of Normal or Motley patterns is a dark reddish brown. RedCoats are always darker than Non-RedCoats of all morphs.
