I can't sleep, there's no one online, I've seen about a million youtube and hulu videos and I'm going out of my mind!! If you're out there, say hello! If you can't sleep either, just add on. It could be the the 3 Diet cokes keeping me awake, but also I think I'm just excited for my new Ghosthousecorns baby's coming soon! Jen P is the shizz. That and my lovely Fiamma ate today for the first time since I've brought her home! Ate like a champ too, lol. All I can say is after getting so many at once - I'm holding off for a long time...that is unless someone wants to give me a snake or two...or 6. I'm always a softee for a rescue or an unwanted. :)
 
That's a problem I never have.
The moment I lay my head on my pillow, I feel sleepy.
 
I can't sleep, either.
It's not about feeling sleepy, either. I'm tired as all-get-out.
I have a lack of sleep headache, I have to work tomorrow (Well, today.) and I'm at the point where it's not worth trying to sleep anymore. It's too late.
 
You're so lucky. I'm practically nocturnal - have been for years. I feel much more calm at night for some reason. I envy you!
 
Hi there!! I can't sleep either....and I'm drinking wine (although I did have a ton of Diet Coke earlier today :shrugs:). I think its a combination of my Thayeri king pair arriving in the morning :D and the fight I got into with a good friend earlier. :(

Oh, and I thought the same about getting a lot at once (I'm not sure how many you are getting, but in the beginning of Dec. I got 16 from Jeff Mohr), I didn't think I'd get another snake for quite some time. I got a Cali king 2 weeks ago, and now the Thayeri kings...I can't help it. I'm addicted! :eek:
 
I'm a 3rd shifter, and due to problems at work, I work 3rd 2 days a week, and 2nd the rest of the week. But they're random days and I have random days off.
Not that it messes with my sleep or social life, or anything.

Wow, craziness people! I'm getting 6 babies. 4 females, 2 males. Those poor guys are gonna be starstruck - that'll be 2 1/2 females to every guy if you count my other!

Random question - has anyone ever bred an Okeetee to a ghost? Not like I'm planning on breeding anything right this moment, but I just thought of that and wondered...

Yep. Actually 17, but a friend of mine fell in love with one, so I sold it to him (for exactly what I paid of course). And they aren't all little mouths, there are 2 adults and 9 yearlings (some of which are pretty good sized buggers!) in addition to the 5 babies. I'll only be hatching out a few clutches this year, and so far no plans to buy more (other than the Thayeris that are already on the way), but I'm sure that there will be things that I just can't resist at shows and on here. So who knows? (Hopefully not too many more though....)

I know. I'm completely nuts! But I like it! :D I think my count is about the same as yours, 1 male for every 3 females (it doesn't seem that way from my count in my signature, but some of my corns are just pets, not breeders).

The only thing I've bred my Okeetee to was a creamsicle, and got some fantastic little rootbeer babies. You'd just end up with little normals (probably with some decent color from the Okeetee parent) that are het for anery and hypo, unless your Okeetee is het for either anery or hypo that is.
 
Hmm, well as I said I'm not breeding anything at the moment, but in the future maybe. These guys are from two different clutches so it's possible. Question - is breeding within the same clutch taboo? Do you end up with little inbred, corny mutants?

Inbreeding doesn't seem to be an issue with corns. Most (if not all) of the big time breeders do it, usually to prove out hets or to have better chances at producing certain hard to get morphs. In fact, some of my project animals are half-siblings, and I'll also be breeding some of my babies from last year and this year back to their parents when they are old enough. So nope, not taboo, doesn't seem to cause little corny mutants. :)

Edit: And I'm glad you are waiting (and I'm assuming doing research and being fully prepared) before breeding. I hear of a lot of people just jumping into it, and bad things happen. :(
 
Wow, good to know! Yeah I'm looking into doing some breeding, but it won't be for a long time, and until I know everything I need to know! I love my animals too much to temp fate with something as big as breeding. Luckily I know a great breeder from Chicago pretty well, and could always ask her for a tip. Every snake I've seen from her is beautiful including my own. :)

That is very refreshing to hear. Plus, you can always get tips here! I did back when I first started (I did a lot of lurking, only started posting fairly recently).
 
Well thank you! I just looked at your profile and saw your picture - what kind of horses do you ride? I'm a Saddlebred, Tennessee Walker kinda girl, lol
 
Excessive inbreeding is bad, and reveals genetic defects in the shared ancestry of the parent.
If the snakes have 'perfect' genes, there's no trouble, but if there's hidden undesirable traits that are recessive and shared, then they will pop out to give you a hard time.
Sometimes it's a necessary evil, but try to avoid it when you can.

Well, who knows when I'll start breeding, but as I said these are from two different clutches. Besides, by the time they're old enough to breed I might have a couple for. I have a feeling though these have good genes though ;)

I have a Selle Francais gelding and a little POA pony mare (who's preggo!!! :)) We do hunter/jumpers and eventing in our family. We have 7 horses all together on our 42 acre farm and have a full stadium course and about 20 cross country fences to train on. One of our first horses was half Saddlebred (we think, he came from a pretty shady fellow, so nobody is quite sure what he was, other than a sweet boy) and my aunt has 2 Walkers. Nice animals.

I should have added the 'excessive' part. (That really is what I meant, and I definitely don't condone excessive inbreeding.)
 
Awww! That's great! Congratulations on the baby!!! I used to ride hunter jumpers but it's been awhile. My old trainer had to move, and the new one at my stable was a little off in her teaching. I was a beginner and didn't want to risk getting hurt.

I'll change my options for PM's now :)
