Hey, don't feel bad, its obvious that you care. Sometimes things happen even when you think that you have everything secured and safe.. And it happens to the best of us. Trust me.. I have had a few snakes get out and get attacked by cats. My fav amel Incubus got out through his tub not being quite secure enough, even though hed been in it for a year, and was killed by a cat. My other snake Alan, an amber bloodred, was killed by cats as well, and I still to this day have no idea how he got out.. His tub was extremely secure.. And I did have a hatchling that got out while I was out of town one year and I came home and found it limp laying on one cats tail while a kitten was attacking it. That snake was extremely damaged, cuts and bite marks everywhere, and I just knew he was going to die as limp as he was and from how extensive his injuries where. BUT he made a complete recovery and went on to live in a new home months later. I have also seen a snake with broken vertebrae make a complete recovery. Snakes can be quite resilient 'IF' they are in good health. I think your little guy will be just fine. His scales will get back to normal and the scars will shed away, as they are not too bad. His eye is quite dented, but will hopefully recover as well. The fact that you are so worried and are here trying to get help and advice, AND taking him to the vet speaks measures of the way you care for your snakes, and I don't think you should feel bad at all. These things happen. I hope everything works out with his eye and I hope you keep your snakes

Im sorry to hear of your snakes problems, but I have to disagree with your assessment. You DO deserve these animals, the depth of your care is so clear by your detailed posts and amazing photographs. It is clear your snakes are VERY well cared for.
Accidents happen. You did NOT intend for your pet to be harmed, and you sought very appropriate medical care. No one who has pets is free from accidental harm to their animals; my own snake BROKE HIS BACK and ended up dying from complications of that injury...and to this day I have no idea how he managed it.
Neither you nor I are bad pet owners, any more than a woman is a bad mom cause her kid accidentally fell and skinned his knee or broke his arm.
Please dont feel badly, as THAT you do not deserve. You should be PRAISED for the care and honor you show your pets.
